Jake Paul has fought several opponents, who were in or close to retirement. However, when Paul’s bout against legendary Mike Tyson was announced, nearly everyone was outraged. Adding the fact that Paul’s team was trying to push the clash as a pro-fight, fans absolutely lost their cool.

Nevertheless, in a recent interview with Fox News, the former ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ made it clear that the fight would be an exhibition, rather than a pro fight. Despite his claim, Tyson emphasized the fight would have standard boxing rules. Meanwhile, when Michael Benson shared the update on social media today, fans took a sigh of relief.

Turning to X (formerly Twitter), Benson wrote, “Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson on July 20th is now confirmed to be an exhibition bout and will not be officially sanctioned as a pro fight, Tyson has confirmed. However, he said the exhibition will be contested under standard boxing rules: ‘This is a fight.’”

This came as a major relief for fans, who were worried about the massive age gap between Tyson and Paul. While Paul is 27, Tyson will be 58 when the fight night rolls around. So, as soon as the tweet went live, people took to the comment section to express their thoughts about the fantastic revelation by Tyson. 

Fan speculates boxing commission still has some common sense

With all the anticipation surrounding Paul and Tyson’s fight, Benson’s tweet immediately went viral, attracting several comments. One user highlighted no way a boxing commission was going to sanction the fight, looking at the age disparity between the two fighters. 

Another user suggested Jake Paul messed up by taking the fight because if he wins people will say he beat up an old man. And if he losses, people will say he got beaten up by an old man.

Someone else relished the fortunate news, claiming sanctioning bodies still have some common sense left to not allow such a fight to happen as a professional boxing event.

The next user highlighted that Paul’s move to get the fight sanctioned as a professional boxing event was the most ’embarassing’ part of the whole situation. 

One user underscored that even the boxing commission, who are “dodgy” per the user, would never sanction a fight involving a 58-year-old opponent.
