2009 was one of the hardest years in popular culture. The world lost one of its beloved singers, and it still remembers his artistic genius fondly. Michael Jackson’s death has left a vacuum in the lives of his fans, and it still seems to be difficult to cope with his untimely demise. Mike Tyson is one among those millions who even today keep his fondness for the late singer alive in his heart and memory.

In a recent sit down with Jackson’s son, ‘Iron Mike’ relived the memories he has of the singer. From recollecting the time when he saw Jackson’s hologram on the 2014 Billboard Music Awards to a discussion of what caused the singer’s death, the former world champion covered all bases. And of course, when Jackson’s world is being discussed, his sister’s name would also be iterated.

The Days in Hawaii, Mike Tyson Explains His Meet with Janet Jackson

Recently, Michael Jackson’s son, Prince Michael Jackson sat down with Mike and DJ Whoo Kid in a candid discussion about various topics that majorly revolved around the late singer.

The episode on Hotboxin with Mike further saw the three discuss the time Mike accidentally got to meet Jackson’s sister, Janet Jackson. Talking about the time the two were in adjacent chateaus in Hawaii, Mike said, “Listen, one day I was in Hawaii and Rodney Jurgens lives next to me. And had um like a little chateau and Maui. And so they have chateaus next to each other on the beach and so I was at one of the chateaus and Janet was as well.”

Further elaborating on the little running into each other that Mike and Janet had, the former said, “And um she was with Jermaine Dupree so I walked down there. And I saw Jermaine and I saw him earlier so I went back there to see him later in the afternoon maybe early. Evening he wasn’t there and then Janet came out I said hi. That’s good. That’s crazy. And then Rodney came up. Y’all know Rodney.”

In Remembrance of Jackson

There was a moment in the episode where all three got quite emotional remembering the iconic moment when Mike Jackson came alive just for a few seconds. Talking about the time when a hologram of Jackson was shown at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, Prince recollected the memories he had of his father. He said, “… he’s got a lot of songs that I never heard of before; he was featured on a lot of other songs with other artists…a lot of um solo albums that I just recently discovered myself… It’s very interesting, you know.”

Further, DJ Whoo Kid also joined in expressing how emotional he was when the hologram came up. He said, “…how many of them shows do you go to, like you know in, in Vegas? The one in Vegas is like that. Everybody was crying. Did you cry, Mike? I cried. I don’t care, everybody.”

Michael Jackson lives on through his art, so many years after his passing. His son Prince was just about 12 years old when his father passed away. However,  his son lives on to divulge some untold stories about the singer.
