In 2021, Mike Tyson sent shockwaves down the cannabis world by announcing the launch of his own cannabis brand—Tyson 2.0 under the parent company Carma HoldCo. The brand started off by manufacturing its own cannabis-derived edibles and other products. Over the years, the youngest heavyweight champion has been constantly adding more products to the venture, skyrocketing the popularity of the brand.

The journey started when in 2017, Tyson bought a 40-acre cannabis operation in California City, California, now known as Tyson Ranch. Four years down the road, during the launch of Tyson 2.0, the legendary boxer had a straight message to his competitors. While talking with Bryan Salmond, he claimed, “Everybody’s involved. Only one can be the king,” declaring his entry into the cannabis world. So far, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ has been true to his words, as in 2022, the company oversubscribed a $9 million Series A funding round, led by JW Asset Management.

Furthermore, a few months later in October, Tyson introduced an online global marketplace for hemp-derived products. Then, in April 2023, he started penetrating Europe by opening Coffeeshop Tyson 2.0, in Spuistraat 222, Amsterdam, the first-ever coffee lounge and retail store run by Tyson 2.0. It was an instant hit and now, with grown ambition and perspective, the 58-year-old has taken the expansion one step further.

Tyson 2.0’s takeover

Wilks revealed how Carma and Tyson are looking to expand the business even further in locations like Spain, and Indonesia (Bali). He is hopeful that with his “retail experience,” with other brands, Carma HoldCo and Tyson 2.0 can benefit as well.
