Former unified heavyweight champion of the world, Andy Ruiz Jr., is still one of the best fighters in the division. ‘The Destroyer’ is on a mission to regain his belts and correct his wrongs of the Anthony Joshua rematch. And now, heavyweight legend Mike Tyson has offered some words of encouragement to Ruiz Jr.
After becoming the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion of the world in 2019, Ruiz Jr. let the fame and superstardom get the better of him. As a result, he came into the rematch overweight and lost his belts. And now, he has to work his way back to another title shot. However, ‘Iron Mike’ has shown his confidence in ‘The Destroyer.’

The 34-2 boxer joined Tyson on an episode of ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson.’ When he told the legendary boxer about his regrets with the second fight against Anthony Joshua, ‘Iron Mike’ encouraged him. He said, “But listen, nothing’s over. You’re still a young baby, you’re not over. You’re not over.”

Thus, this comment from Tyson showed he believes the 31-year-old still has time to regain his belts. Ruiz Jr. then added, “I know, but I keep that inside me because I don’t want that to happen again.” This reply from the former champion explained why he continues to reference the defeat to Joshua.

Mike Tyson tells Andy Ruiz Jr. not to feel sorry for himself
Tyson’s encouragement to Ruiz Jr. comes from his own experience. The legendary boxer knows all about losing titles and winning them back. He was a three-time heavyweight champion. And therefore, he had some special advice for Ruiz Jr. after the encouragement.

‘Iron Mike’ said, “Well listen, just keep on fighting with the belief system you have and keep on being confident. Come on man, that’s just one fight. I know you ain’t gonna let no little fight like that last fight with Joshua discourage you.”

“You’re former heavyweight champion of the world. You can get the title back and you have many opportunities. Never feel sorry for yourself. You’re in a great position in life.” Thus, based on these comments from Mike Tyson, it is clear that he still believes Ruiz Jr. can become a heavyweight champion.
