Mikaela Mayer continues to put the boxing world on notice with back to back impressive performances inside the ring. Mayer’s rise in the professional circuit has been nothing less than spectacular. The former 2016 Olympian and a bronze medalist in the 2012 world championship, Mayer has always had her eyes set on the championship gold.
Ahead of her championship bout against Ewa Brodnicka for the WBO female super-featherweight title, Mayer spoke to Seconds Out and revealed how the championship bout fell into place.
“I don’t even want to say that one specific person has been on my radar. I thought we were going after, it was tricky, we were going after Eva Wahlstrom, who was the WBC champ. This was about a year ago, we were in the negotiation. I woke up one day, and the fight went to Terri Harper,” Mayer said.

Mikaela Mayer revealed that she had her eyes set on the former WBC champion
Mikaela Mayer stated that soon after Terri picked up a win over Eva Wahlstrom, she went after the WBC champion for a potential showdown inside the ring for the WBC strap. However, the bout did not fall in place.
“So Terri Harper beat Eva Wahlstrom, which I assumed that she would. I never really thought that Eva was all that great. So now Terri Harper has the belt.
“I kind of came at her for a little while saying I was the number 1 contender, that should have been my world title fight.” Mayer added, “She is number 13, and she kind of skipped the line there. But you know, this is boxing and that’s how things work out.”

It was only then that the former Olympian shifted her attention towards the WBO super-featherweight champion, Ewa Brodnicka.
“My radar was sort of directed towards her. But when WBO made it mandatory, and we realized that, ‘Okay, let’s start going after the other champs.’
“I started looking in Ewa Brodnicka’s way, but I was ready to fight anyone with the belt.” Mayer added, “I am honored the way Top Rank has pushed me up the ranks, and not just me but the entire women’s boxing.”

In a battle between two undefeated greats, Mikaela Mayer will take on Ewa Brodnicka on October 31 inside MGM Grand Conference Center in Nevada.
Brodnicka has been on a spectacular run ever since grabbing the interim junior-featherweight title back in 2017. She was later promoted as the undisputed champion and will look to defend her gold against rising prospect and true challenger in her own right, Mikaela Mayer.
