From a headliner at the Madison Square Garden, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano moved to a co-main event. Nevertheless, it was sheer delight for diehards fans, watching two of the generation’s best women fighters getting back for yet another thriller. The match lived up to its expectations, offering everything a fan might expect from an exchange of such high caliber.
The bout for Taylor’s 140-pound undisputed title concluded most contentiously. With many convinced of Amanda Serrano’s win, clamors for a trilogy fight soon emerged. During a pre-fight face-to-face, both Taylor and Serrano hinted at a third edition. But it may take some time before the dust settles on the matter. ‘The Real Deal’ received a compelling proposition; however, as Amanda Serrano and Mikaela Mayer‘s discussion extended, it soon became clear—their bout would have to wait.

Despite suffering a third career loss, Amanda Serrano appeared quite optimistic for women’s boxing. In a heartfelt message, she addressed all the current champions, including Mikaela Mayer. The big MVP-Netflix show at the Cowboys Stadium had visibly impressed the welterweight champion. In her response, Mayer appreciated Amanda Serrano, however, she also wanted to know if Serrano would be game for a faceoff. Mayer expressed willingness to step down a division, noting, “If Katie isn’t willing to agree to a much-deserved trilogy, I will happily drop to 140 and challenge you. I would be honored to have you on my resume. I think the fans might enjoy it too 😉.”
With that said… Amanda, if Katie isn’t willing to agree to a much deserved trilogy, I will happily drop to 140 and challenge you. Would be honored to have you on my resume. I think the fans might enjoy it too 😉 @MostVpromotions @trboxing @Serranosisters

But it seems Amanda Serrano has other plans. She shared that negotiations for a trilogy with Katie Taylor were about to commence. Referring to their face-to-face and Taylor’s response during the post-fight conference, Serrano sounded quite confident that the fight should come through. According to Serrano, at 140 pounds, it’s the only fight she is likely to entertain. Later, while admiring Mikaela Mayer’s performance in the last fight, ‘The Real Deal’ expressed a wish for her to unify the new division soon.

Mikaela Mayer responded, “You’ve earned the right to call the shots. Hope she follows through and you get the trilogy! 🤝” However, Amanda Serrano wasn’t done. More as a suggestion than a challenge, she replied that Mayer could also approach Taylor for a fight. Given her size, the Irish champion may agree to a clash. The Los Angeles-born boxer also revealed how Katie Taylor had always been on her radar.
Katie has always been on my list. I’m not sure what her plans are but I am of course always willing to drop to 140 for her as well. Or she can attempt to become a 3 weight world champion and come challenge me for my belt at 147 🔥 @KatieTaylor 🫶🏼 https://t.co/mIAzhBdaB2

Though she doesn’t know what the Irish icon might plan next, she’s willing to step down and fight her as a light welterweight, if needed. Better still, Taylor might as well move up a division and try for a championship belt in a record third division. Though she suffered a second career loss to Natasha Jonas on January 20, like a true champion, Mikaela Mayer rebounded and claimed the welterweight belt from Sandy Ryan at the Madison Square Garden two months ago.
