When it comes to the history of boxing and the exceptional technical skill displayed by some of the greatest boxers in the past, there’s a rich tapestry of talent to explore. From Muhammad Ali to Sugar Ray Robinson to Roy Jones Jr. to Floyd Mayweather, a lot of boxing greats have left their mark, leaving the fans constantly debating about who’s the greatest. Now technicality is not the only criterion that leads to one dominating the ring.
However, these legends showed off their boxing IQ with such fluidity and mastery that their names will likely remain etched in the sport’s history. Recently martial artist and actor Michael Jai White appeared on The Adam Carolla Show to promote ‘Outlaw Johnny Black’. There he made a surprising pick for “the most dominant” boxer in the history of the sport.

Michael Jai White shares his pick among the legends
During one segment of the episode, Carolla asked him about his favorite in boxing, he frankly named Floyd Mayweather Jr. as his favorite. He also revealed that he was just talking with ‘Money’ Mayweather a day before. Soon the host pointed out that, due to the difference in skill and talent between Mayweather and his opponents, sometimes, it would lead to his fight being labelled as boring. He stated that there was such a gap in capabilities that it was always confirmed that Mayweather wasn’t going to lose. Furthermore, he added, “I always liked Roy Jones. I always thought that guy was the most athletic dude out there.”
To this White stated that as far as dominance is concerned there is no doubt that the Florida native is the best. He added, “Roy Jones’ the best. He is the most dominant thing you’ve ever seen in the boxing ring.”
The host also stated that Jones would go out to play an “amateur basketball game before the fight.” White claimed, “But the nerd that I am, I would break down what Roy was doing and I remember meeting him. I ran into him in Florida and I just lost who I was.” He went on to describe his interaction with the boxing legend who back in 2020 went toe-to-toe against Mike Tyson in an exhibition bout. It appears Jones’ performance stood out to him more than the other legends such as Muhammad Ali, Roberto Durán, and Marvin Hagler.
Jai White’s interaction with Roy Jones Jr.
The Undisputed 2 actor revealed one interaction he had with the former world champion. He talked about how he met Jones Jr. as he “came out of an elevator it was an entourage.” The actor then recalled, “I walked up to him and I did this (gesturing something with his hands)-”. Carolla asked if White bowed to Jones Jr. However, the actor revealed, “No, I did this, which means hot hands. I immediately challenged him to hot hands. He walked out looked at me and he just did this and his whole entourage is like ‘what the h**l is going on?’”

Then both started “doing the hand slap thing.” White stated that he doesn’t know what got into him “but he totally got it.”
Furthermore, he stated that he used the chance to see how the champ “throws his blows.” Moreover, the actor admitted “And I always think, that guy is a competition for me with this. Because he had this way of not telegraphing, even throwing left hooks. He wouldn’t even telegraph.” He shared his admiration and stated that not a lot of fighters are capable of something similar.
