Ahead of today’s impressive 6th-round TKO victory against Jose Pedraza, ‘The Businessman’ confessed that he was addicted to self-harm and smoking weed. However, with support from his doctors and well-wishers, Keyshawn won his battle.

On that note, Claressa Shields openly lauded Keyshawn Davis for his achievement. At the same time, she was happy that a young fighter did not hesitate to comment on a much-hushed topic such as depression. Likewise, she also hoped that none would mock Davis for opening up about the battle he fought.

On Cigar Talk, the 24-year-old boxer recounted that mental health issues led him to take the step to smoke weed. In a startling statement, he revealed that even when he was on the Olympic team, he was addicted to self-harm. Gradually, thanks to medication and Keyshawn Davis’ will to live a healthier life, ‘The Businessman’ was able to overcome his addiction. On that note, since Davis openly spoke about his mental health issues, Claressa Shields took to X and took a stand for the Lightweight fighter.

And since there has been a situation where a boxer was mocked for opening up about his depression, Claressa Shields added, “I hope no one ever uses that against him because cause mental health is serious. It’s not talked about enough.

At this, although Keyshawn Davis has yet to reply to Shields, several fans wholeheartedly supported Claressa’s statement. Anyway, on Cigar Talk Keyshawn Davis explained how God helped him quit smoking.

God took away Keyshawn’s urge to smoke

After Keyshawn Davis quit smoking weed, he felt he was a better person. As his coaches noticed, he became more energetic and happier. However, for Keyshawn, the fight against weed addiction was not easy. Therefore, he prayed to God and asked for a way out. Soon, he promised God that he would not smoke weed anymore. But, that promise was broken after a while. “Long story short, I was like, ‘Yo I just lied to God’,” said Davis.

However, he added, “The first chance I got I started smoking. I repented. I really felt bad. Like I really did this. And honestly, after I did that God took my urge away.” “I had an encounter with God, honestly,” he emphasized. “Ever since that day, I repented and really felt bad, I never had the urge again,” Keyshawn Davis concluded saying.
