Deontay Wilder’s unfiltered take on Andy Ruiz Jr.

In a candid interview with ES Boxing, Deontay Wilder laid bare his thoughts about Andy Ruiz Jr.’s stint as a world champion. Wilder held nothing back, stating, “Me and Andy is two different people. Andy was only a champion for as long as a blink of an eye. I’m a five-year, ten-title defense champion. There is a difference”. He boldly discredited the importance of Ruiz’s historic 2019 victory over Anthony Joshua, which led to Ruiz becoming the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion. Wilder’s remarks underscored his belief in the superiority of his own championship reign.

Moreover, Wilder didn’t hesitate to critique Ruiz’s fighting style, stating, “What I possess is power. I put people on the edge of their seats every time. People come to see my God-given talent. Now, on the other hand, with Andy – what do we see from him? A short, fat fighter with small arms so it makes him look fast – T-Rex – that’s it”.

Furthermore, Wilder predicted the trajectory of Ruiz’s future boxing career.

Deontay Wilder further escalated his critique of Ruiz, claiming, “You don’t put nobody at the edge of their seat, and ain’t nobody getting excited”. According to him, any potential fight between him and Ruiz would be exciting only due to the audience’s anticipation of how fast Wilder could knock Ruiz out.

Wilder’s most startling revelation was about Ruiz’s future in boxing. He forecasted, Soon you’re going to see Ruiz become nonexistent in the boxing world. You’re going to see him on the shelf because he ain’t going to have nobody to fight”. These words paint a dire picture of Ruiz’s future in the boxing world, suggesting his relevance and opportunities might be on the brink of extinction.
