WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world today. He has been terrorizing the entire division even before becoming the world champion.

As he prepares to go against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in his upcoming doubleheader with twin brother Jermell, Canelo Alvarez is touted as one of his future opponents. That said, the ‘Big’ Charlo has also desired to face Canelo several times.

Alvarez is another middleweight gladiator who is registered as one of the best. Thus, a win against him will cement Jermall’s legacy even stronger. However, a top-rated boxing promoter believes that Canelo will never think of going against Charlo inside the ring.

Jermall Charlo vs Canelo Alvarez will be a treat for the fight fans, but….

The CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, believes that Jermall can absolutely destroy Canelo if they ever square off. Canelo is one of the best middleweights ever, and many people might disagree with Ellerbe. However, the boxing mogul insisted that Jermall Charlo’s style is “all wrong” for Alvarez.

Speaking with Boxing Scene, he said, “Jermall Charlo is the best middleweight in the world right now. There are few other guys at 160, namely Canelo, who will have something to say about that.

“Jermall is on a mission to prove something to the world. Jermall’s style is all wrong for Canelo. They would never put him in there with Charlo. I don’t think Canelo goes anywhere near Jermall. He’s an animal.”

Although he respects Canelo, Ellerbe further added, “Charlo is too big, athletic, and too fast at 160 for Canelo.”

That said, Charlo vs Alvarez will still be an exciting fight to watch. Apart from their dominance and record, it will garner massive profits for promoters. They are two of the biggest superstars of boxing and facing each other could also bag them lucrative checks.

However, the matchup couldn’t happen in the past because of some unknown reasons. As per Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy promotion offered an attractive deal to Jermall for facing Canelo last year.

“We offered [Jermall] a pretty lucrative deal to fight Canelo last year. I don’t know who turned it down. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Charlo, but that train has already left and it’s unfortunate,” told De La Hoya.
