Canelo Alvarez is being heavily criticized for having gotten a bit slower during his fights than before. Well, these vexatious statements started sprouting after his recent bout against John Ryder. This was the bout where Alvarez wanted to give something back to his hometown, and that’s the reason it happened in Mexico. Reportedly, Alvarez fought in his homeland after a long time of 12 years. Well, many believed this contest to be a walk in the park for a fighter like ‘Cinnamon’, and were expecting to see a stoppage.

But the fight went on to the scorecards, and even though Alvarez won, a lot of fans felt Alvarez had lost his charm. Besides this, a few months ago, many attacked Canelo for his selection of an opponent. Well, with his upcoming fight on September 30 against Jermell Charlo, Alvarez is planning to shut a lot of mouths. Even the Mayweather Promotions’ CEO has chimed in with his views on the topic.

Canelo Alvarez is full of zeal and zest so that he can shut all the mouths that are opening against him. Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, also believes that because of all the backlash, Alvarez wants to show the world yet again, why he deserves to be at the pinnacle of the sport.

In his recent post on X, Ellerbe talked about all the criticisms Alvarez had to face for the past few months. He wrote, “There’s been rumblings about Canelo losing a step, and also that he doesn’t fight black fighters all of which I think has motivated him more to show the world he’s still the top dog.” Moreover, he stated that he expects Canelo to step on the canvas against Jermell Charlo with the “best version” of himself.

A lot of people blame Alvarez’s age for his sluggish performance, well it’s to be noted that Alvarez is only 33 years old. Now, this is still 3 years younger than Floyd Mayweather, who had fought against the 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez in 2013. Moreover, Terence Crawford has also commented on Alvarez’s choice of opponents in the past. Interestingly, in a recent interview, he also refused to take up the fight against Crawford.

Alvarez has also denied the fight against Terence Crawford

In the recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Terence Crawford has shown interest in moving up to 168 and challenging the winner of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo. Well, before this, the same question was asked to Canelo Alvarez in his interview for The Breakfast Club.
