Victor Conte is not ready to let Ryan Garcia off the hook easily. The American has launched a new, sizzling attack against him as the latter continues to battle for his innocence amid the PED abuse allegations. He has now called into question the lightweight boxer’s shenanigans that seized headlines before his fight with Devin Haney.
‘KingRy’ turned in two positive samples for ostarine on April 19 and 20, before he took on ‘The Dream’ in a high-stakes fight. While he racked up a splendid win, his victory lost its luster as the accusations of PED abuse overshadowed the festivities. Despite getting a favorable sample through hair testing, the Victorville native’s B-sample also showed positive results. Since then, he and his legal team have taken a shield behind supplement contamination, which didn’t sit well with Conte. The 74-year-old turned to his X handle and slammed Garcia, 25, for blaming “everything else” and his pre-fight shenanigans, where he appeared as if he was intoxicated days before his fight.
“Maybe @ryangarcia should have his TEQUILA tested to see if that was his source of ostarine contamination. He has blamed everybody & everything else. Maybe somebody spiked his tequila before the fight with @realdevinhaney.” Conte wrote. In addition, the former BALCO founder also shared a YouTube video on his handle, which had a compilation of his previous replies to Garcia’s supplement contamination “excuse”. According to him, it was proof that the 25-1 record holder’s legal team had failed to convince the boxing community of their side of the story.

“Victor Conte “ROASTS @ryangarcia” contaminated supplement excuse. This is an up to date summary on the “Was it Conte or Contamination?” debate. Seems that an attempt to “dupe the world of boxing” by Team Ryan Garcia has failed miserably,” Conte added.
The New York State Athletics Commission will decide on the quantum of the punishment faced by Garcia. Notably, PED abuse is a strict liability offense, where the parties’ intent remains immaterial while deciding on the punishment. Probably the lightweight boxer will be slapped with a ban. But if he can prove that he ingested ostarine accidentally, he could escape with a shorter ban and fine. Moreover, his victory would not be ruled a disqualification either. However, it seems NYSAC is not his only concern.

More legal trouble for Ryan Garcia
The WBC, which sanctioned the fight between Garcia and Haney, has launched its own investigations. The body most recently released a statement that requested more information from the former WBC interim lightweight champion. Besides, the WBC confirmed that they expected information by the end of this month so that they could move ahead with the investigation.
In the meantime, the organization says it will continue with the investigation of pharmacological characteristics of ostarine to understand the lead of the test results. Previously, Amir Khan had to serve a two-year ban when he tested positive for ostarine. Does a similar fate await Garcia? The boxing world will find out soon.
