Boxing fans feel they have been unfairly treated after Sports entertainment media and broadcasting service DAZN media revised their pricing for UK customers. There are multiple big fights that are lined up for 2023, and the increase in prices have not been taken well by fans. Meanwhile, Matchroom boxing promotions chief Eddie Hearn has come out in support of DAZN.
DAZN is one of the major streaming platforms for sports all over the world and they render their services to over 200 countries for various sports including boxing. They have a massive customer base in the UK and the price hike will affect the customers.
However, Eddie Hearn does not think so. In an interview with iD Boxing, He revealed the reason behind it. On Twitter, iDBoxing shared the video. Meanwhile, let’s see what Eddie Hearn has to say about the subscription charge.

Eddie Hearn comes in favor of DAZN
Giving the example of mega fights, Hearn argued that the customers don’t have to pay-per-view to watch these fights. He wanted to emphasize that these fights would be included as part of the subscription model, and it would definitely retain the hardcore boxing fans.
In the interview, Eddie Hearn said, “We see that the bulk of our subscribers are loyal customers, that subscribes every single month. For them, nothing really changes. Now you won’t have to pay per view for Anthony Joshua, you won’t have to pay per view for Taylor-Serrano or Canelo-Ryder if that lands as well.”
He further added, “So the value for customers again is unquestionable. Now, if you are not a loyal customer, you just wanna pop in every now and again, it will cost you more money to do so.”
“So if you wanted to pop in and want to watch the Anthony Joshua fight, so it is gonna cost you 19.99 pounds for the month, but it will also give you Jose Rodriguez, Cordina against Rakhimov and our show in Sheffield as well and more,” Hearn said.
As per the new pricing, DAZN is going to charge £9.99 per month, which previously was £7.99 per month. And the yearly pack with a one-time payment stands at, £99.99.

Fans slammed Eddie Hearn for supporting the new price
Fans were annoyed with Eddie Hearn’s comments supporting DAZN’s price hike. Here are some of their comments.
Yeah matchroom is officially finished! Backed the company for years and took abuse? But now they just lack the great nights! The move to dazn has killed it

It’s genius imo, I’m one who pops in and out so it’s annoying but for their point of view it’s clever
— Boxingnut!!! (@supastu) February 9, 2023
It’s a reasonable deal. If you want the subscription for a year pay £100 up front. If you just want the big fights then pay £20 for that month.

Is there going to be PPV on top of the £9.99?
— Jon Guy (@Jgrpvc) February 10, 2023
But we will smash subscribers to bits when we make AJ/Whyte PPV on top of your monthly subscription
— JACK (@Hynsey11) February 9, 2023
They’ve raised the price because if they put Aj back on ppv they’d have been laughed out of it. This basically is ppv

The new pricing model may be due to the upcoming mega fights that are scheduled to take place or it could be that DAZN wants to recover the $6 billion in losses, hence the new hike in the pricing.
