Things just got real for WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis! The 30-year-old Baltimore native was reigning over the division with impunity. It just took an old rival, Lamont Roach Jr., to climb one weight class and fight him to end Davis’ rule and his image as the ‘face of boxing.’ Now, all of Davis’ plans for the future seem to be crumbling, alongside one involving Jake Paul.

Despite being the ultimate underdog in the fight tonight, Roach went blow for blow with Davis, resulting in a majority decision draw. Interestingly enough, many thought Roach, who climbed from super featherweight for the fight, had done enough to tip the fight in his favor. Regardless, the Baltimore native was always confident about producing a win.

One day before the fight, he even teased a call out on social media, asking his fans to tune in to watch. “Tune in tomorrow, call out at the end of the fight 👀,” Davis wrote on X. However, after how the fight turned out, Davis’ focus is more on making a rematch with Roach, so he can redeem himself and try and get on top of the division again.

Meanwhile, during the post-fight interview, the much-discussed call-out on X was finally revealed—drumroll, please—Jake Paul. Who could have seen that coming? When a reporter pressed Davis about his cryptic post, he hinted that the person he wanted to call out had attended the event and even stopped by his locker room.

Naturally, speculation ran wild. When the reporter asked if it was Shakur Stevenson, Davis shut it down immediately. But when Jake Paul’s name was blurted out, Davis fell silent, looking visibly disappointed before asking to move on to the next question. Davis had previously called out Paul after the Mike Tyson fight, and Paul had revealed he would be open to it.

This comes after Jake Paul was rumored to fight Canelo Alvarez, but the Mexican superstar left him stranded to sign a lucrative four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, which will see him fight William Scull and Terence Crawford later this year. Regardless, while Davis managed to hold on to his title, many are calling it a robbery.

World champions cry out ‘Robbery’ after Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. fight

The fight was nothing like everyone expected. Yes, the fight started slowly as usual, but Davis was never really able to get the upper hand, with Roach gaining momentum after every round. This was made worse after Davis took a knee out of nowhere. The referee didn’t count it as a knockdown, and Davis went unpunished for the move.

He later revealed that chemicals used in his hair were dripping down to his eyes. But the damage was done, and people were upset. Davis’ former opponent, Ryan Garcia, hopped on X to write, “Lamont won that. Not calling that knockdown is the most wild thing I ever seen in boxing, that type of stuff makes boxing look bad.”

Meanwhile, Arnold Barboza Jr. wrote, “Rules don’t apply to everyone?” Even former two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford expressed his frustration. “Some of y’all need to watch Mayweather vs Hernandez and see Mayweather take a knee because he hurt his hand and it was called a knockdown and not from a punch either,” Crawford wrote.

The funny thing is that this is just the tip of the iceberg; many more were up in arms, advocating against the written-off knockdown. Regardless, Davis and Paul seem to have lost most from the fight without actually losing the fight. What are your thoughts on the matter?
