Manny Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugas are all set to roll out a fiery boxing event on August 21. Although Pacquiao’s return was in contention for a long time, nobody expected him to come up against the WBA welterweight champ, Yordenis Ugas. However, as Errol Spence Jr had to withdraw from this fight because of an eye injury, Ugas was the next best option.
As Ugas has proven his mettle in the 147-pound division, the WBA didn’t think twice before naming him as the short-notice replacement. What helped matters was that he was already booked on the same card.
But where does ’54 Milagros’ currently stand in the WBA rankings? Does Pacquiao hold a spot in the WBA rankings too?

As of July 2021, Yordenis Ugas has the top spot at the WBA rankings as he has the ‘super’ strap under his wing. On the other hand, the Filipino Senator is the champion in ‘recess’ because of his lengthy hiatus from the sport. But he still holds a vital place in the division and the sanctioning body’s list.
Earlier in 2019, Pacquiao had the WBA welterweight ‘super’ belt to his name. But after fighting Keith Thurman, he went out of action and didn’t defend his title. Hence, Ugas received the belt.

However, the clock has turned back, and now, both Pacquiao and Ugas will fight each other for that ultimate WBA title again.
Can Manny Pacquiao bag his long-lost title again?
The 42-year-old is on the brink of signing off from the sport. That said, every fight he takes from hereon will prove to be extremely vital. Accordingly, once he storms into the ring on Saturday night, Pacquiao will only look to come out with the belt.
