The way things have been unfolding lately, it seems that fans aren’t going to see Manny Pacquiao dance in the ring one last time. Not long ago, a fight between ‘Pac-Man’ and Conor Benn was in the spotlight in the boxing community. However, soon the news of UKAD and BBBofC winning their appeal regarding a failed doping test from 2022 against Benn came forth and since then speculations of a fight haven’t stirred much.
Consequently, the former eight-division champion, and an immensely popular figure in the Philippines, seems to have turned his attention to his political career. Back in 2010, ‘Pac-Man’ started his journey in politics after being elected as the representative of Sarangani municipality. After spending six years in the position, he was elected as the senator in 2016. Now, he is back at it again, as revealed by Pacquiao’s MP Promotions rep Sean Gibbons.
According to a report from Boxing Scene, “Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions rep Sean Gibbons has revealed that the Conor Benn fight was close to done before the BBBofC and UKAD won their appeal.” The news was later picked up by talkSport editor Michael Benson and shared on X hours ago. While it might be sad news for Pacquiao’s fans, many seem to be happy for a new beginning in the professional’s life!

Benson also revealed, “Gibbons said Pacquiao will retire for good in nine months as he is running for office in the Philippines again.” It’s worth mentioning that Pacquiao originally retired from the sport back in August 2021 after suffering a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Yordenis Ugas.
Previously, the eight division champ was also in talks with Floyd Mayweather for an exhibition fight in Japan under a Japanese promoter’s banner. However, due to Mayweather’s demand for more money, the fight fell through. Nonetheless, a different, more challenging opportunity might be in the cards for Pacquiao, if he decides to juggle his two interests.

One Championship flyweight MMA world titlist vs. Pacquiao
One Championship has always strived to make the biggest mixed martial arts fights possible. However, they took the world by surprise not long ago by releasing a quote from Demetrious Johnson. According to an Instagram post from the promoters, Johnson said, “I’d love to box. If it was Manny Pacquiao, **** it, I’m doing it.”

Things turned even more interesting when One Championship CEO and chairman Chatri Sityodtong chimed in with his two cents. Commenting on the post, he wrote, “I am down for it! Two goats!” Interestingly, this wouldn’t even be their first breakthrough fight! All the way back in March 2022, Johnson fought Muay champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a mixed rules bout.
With the Conor Benn fight in the ashes, Manny Pacquiao seems to be on his way back to politics. However, if One Championship CEO manages to convince Pacquiao to enter the octagon, fans could have a huge event on the horizon. What’s your take on Pacquiao’s decision? Would you like to see Johnson vs. Pacquiao?
