The ‘Tank’ nailed it again. Delivering the 28th knockout of his career, Gervonta Davis defeated Frank Martin. He will continue to be the WBA lightweight champion. It took him only eight rounds to wrap up ‘The Ghost’s business. Cheers and congratulations have been pouring in ever since. But one particular felicitation that he received at the ringside seems to have caught everyone’s attention. Why? Davis was receiving a pat on the back from none other than his former rival and bête noire, Ryan Garcia.

Dressed in the most captivating shirt with an eye-catching slogan, ‘KingRy’s move might have, however, surprised many. Of course, as many fans are aware, the two have seemingly grown close over the last couple of months. But as one of the users pointed with his trainer and stablemate at the opposite corner, or rather at the receiving end, some perhaps considered it a bit shocking.

Michael Benson’s tweet read, “Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia embracing and laughing at Ryan’s top after Tank’s KO of Frank Martin.” It was all smiles and hugs as ‘KingRy’ and Tank’ talked animatedly. The half-minute-long clip featured the Baltimorean checking out the Californian’s sleeveless tee. It had ‘Tank’s #1 Fan’ written on the front. While the back had ‘Rematch Me B*tch’.

Gervonta Davis took everyone by surprise. He proved himself one of the few supporters who spoke in favor of Ryan Garcia, as the latter found himself knee-deep in the doping scandal. After the results of the B sample came, in a deleted post (as his usual practice), ‘Tank said, “He didn’t cheat.” In response, ‘KingRy’ replied, “Shoutout Gervonta Davis Bro, really, my brother, NO F**KING CAP.

The outcome of Ryan Garcia’s secondary sample reportedly confirmed the findings of the primary test. So currently, his career, in many ways, hangs in the balance. The New York State Athletic Commission will have to decide whether to call for a ban on his boxing license or not. If so, for how long should the suspension last?

Fans react to Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia’s new-found bonhomie

From the comments, it was easy to see that not all seemed too pleased with Garcia’s gesture. While some appeared puzzled, a few believed it might be a step towards a rematch between the two boxers. Let’s go through some of the comments that came their way.

This user finds it hard to believe that Ryan Garcia met Gervonta Davis so exclusively. After all, his current trainer, Derrick James, and Frank Martin, with whom he has trained in the past, were standing just nearby!

The next user echoed similar sentiments. They, however, laughed at the way Ryan Garcia changed camps, all the while he had been going around in Martin’s company.

The next follower appeared satisfied with the way the relationship had evolved between Garcia and Davis. But like many, they felt that the former shouldn’t have treated Frank Martin in such a way.

The following user too found it absolutely funny at the way ‘KingRy’ has started brown-nosing someone who inflicted his first career loss.

Unlike others, this user thinks that maybe ‘KingRy’ and ‘Tank’ are getting closer to inking another money-making deal.

Amidst an ongoing crisis, it’s not surprising if Ryan Garcia conveys his gratitude to someone who came out and openly supported him.

But as many fans highlighted, should that be tantamount to forgetting where he came from? It is not clear whether Ryan Garcia subsequently walked up to Frank Martin and Derrick James and voiced his support in this hour of defeat. If he did that, then he would stay right on track as far as values are concerned. Otherwise, he could still make amends and be with the people who had been with him all along when he needed them.

What’s your take on the reactions? Do you agree with the views expressed by some of the fans?
