What did Gennady Golovkin say about Canelo Alvarez?

Months before his fight with Alvarez, Golovkin gave an interview with Boxing Scene where he revealed what he thinks about Alvarez’s last fight. GGG was asked whether this fight would have taken place had the Mexican won against Bivol. Golovkin replied, claiming that it would have.

He said, “Knowing certain details, I believe that I thought that this fight would take place regardless of the outcome of the Bivol-Canelo fight.” Additionally, he claimed that the loss has grounded Alvarez. He said, “His loss in his last fight probably brought him back to reality. It probably taught him to treat boxing more seriously.”

Furthermore, Golovkin was asked about the reason for the change in the relationship between the two boxing legends. GGG replied saying, “I don’t even know how to explain it. Maybe it’s just the side effects of certain substances in the body. But I treat it as a sporting event, nothing personal. But the words that he chooses to say are unexplainable. Inexplicable.”
