Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford created history this year. The latter became the first man to become a two-division undisputed champion. Conversely, the former, a reigning undisputed champion, defended his title a third time against another undisputed champion. Hence, it was just a matter of time before talks of a fight between the two modern-day legends erupted.

If truth be told, it remains hugely doubtful at this point. But if it’s permissible to conjecture, what happens when the two outstanding technicians square up against each other? Regis Prograis believes that Terence Crawford barely stands a chance in front of someone like Canelo Alvarez. But did he think that his hypothesis would go unnoticed? If he did so, then he’s wrong. For, ‘Bud’ enjoys the steady support of an upcoming star. Shakur Stevenson is even willing to bet a wager with Prograis on his mentor’s chances to win.

Terence Crawford has a long way to go: Regis Prograis

Stressing the justification behind the existence of different weight divisions, Regis Prograis said, “I just like, I mean, look what he did to Jermell; just shut him down; you know, I mean the power. It’s just that they make a weight class for a reason. I think that I don’t see, um, I don’t see him beting Canelo could be wrong, but um, right now, I don’t see him beating Canelo.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, the New Orlean-born Southpaw, while appreciating Terence Crawford, mentioned the sheer difference in weight categories. He criticized people who pick names randomly for match-ups without understanding. So they latched up to an easy line-up of Alvarez and Crawford since they were at the top of the class. However, Prograis emphasized that they should watch what happened to Jermell Charlo recently.

Shakur Stevenson: You’re biting off more than you can chew

But in came Shakur Stevenson, who looks up to Crawford like an older brother. Calling out Rougarou, the former two-division champion said, “If the fight ever [gets] made, my boy, let’s place a large bet on it. @RPrograis.” It should be interesting for many to know that both share a familiar foe in Haney. But for the split share he received, Stevenson, who joined the Lightweight division this year, almost had a fight scheduled against Devin Haney.

It will be most unlikely for the Mexican icon to scale down divisions to meet the Nebraskan. The lay of the land appears to be the same for Crawford. He must climb three divisions to meet the Super Middleweight champion.

Regis Prograis made amends to his professional records after his first professional loss to Josh Taylor four years ago and became the WBC Light Welterweight Champion last year. But six months later came his first test at retaining the much-vaunted belt. He succeeded and now seems prepared to face what could be the toughest test of his career. He will meet Devin Haney in San Franciso on December 9. On the other hand, Shakur Stevenson will meet Edwin De Los Santos for the WBC Lightweight title vacated due to Haney’s departure.
