“Gervonta needs Jake Paul,” were the words of MVP’s CEO Nakisa Bidarian as Jake Paul accepted the challenge laid down by Tank. For those who may not know, Gervonta Davis challenged The Problem Child after the latter’s match against Mike Tyson. Tank seemed deeply hurt by what his idol was going through and angrily posted several stories calling Jake Paul a “bozo” and threatened to beat his “brakes off” the next time he saw him.
Surprisingly, El Gallo accepted the challenge in the post-match press conference and said “Let’s run it like I’ll be super down.” However, since then, neither of the two has made any statements regarding this fight. Jake Paul is basking in the glory of his win. Meanwhile, Tank is still waiting on his match against Lamont Roach Jr. However, former Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe and a close confidante of Tank Davis summed up their rivalry in just a few words.

Right after the press conference for the upcoming PBC event headlined by David Benavidez and David Morrell, Ellerbe spoke to FightHype about various things. He opened up about Tank’s future and also put to bed his newly brewing rivalry with Jake Paul in one line. Ellerbe stated, “We know Jake Paul would never get in a ring with Tank Davis,” thrashing the chances of the fight happening.
He made it clear that he is not criticizing The Problem Child. In fact, Ellerbe respects what Jake Paul has been doing over the past four years. “I got nothing but respect for what he’s been doing he’s been getting he’s been getting to that bag consistently and you got to admire that.” For his fight against Mike Tyson, El Gallo reportedly earned $40 million, his highest payday ever. The former YouTuber even challenged Canelo Alvarez for a match, stating that no one else can provide the latter with a payday that he can.

Ellerbe further stated that Jake Paul is providing for his family and that is the only thing that matters. However, he further squashed any potential of the Paul-Davis fight happening, saying, “Tank Davis is Tank Davis and Jake Paul knows that.” He implied that Jake Paul knows how dangerous the WBA lightweight champion is and despite the massive weight difference, he won’t do anything careless against the latter.
At this time Gervonta Davis is anyway not focused on Jake Paul considering he has to defend his title against Lamont Roach. However, Ellerbe opened up about the postponed fight, giving the fans something to look forward to.

‘Tank’ was supposed to defend his WBA Lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr. on December 14. However, Tank announced a few weeks ago that the fight was postponed until January. Plans once again changed when multiple sources revealed to BoxingScene that the fight wouldn’t happen in January either. PBC now plans to schedule the match on March 1, 2024, on PBC’s Prime Video pay-per-view event. PBC has not yet announced the venue and location for the rescheduled fight.
When Boxing Scene inquired Ellerbe about the fight, he assured everyone that the opponent was still Roach Jr. However, the fans and the experts will have to wait further to find out more details about the match.
Ellerbe has been influential in promoting Gervonta Davis over the years. He once again hyped up his fighter and stated that Tank would face everyone in the division. “None of these guys can f*** with Tank–not one of them. I don’t want to say anybody’s name, but it’s just a matter of time. Line them up, and Tank is going to knock each of them down,” stated Ellerbe confidently.
