Can Mike Tyson defy age and reclaim glory against Lennox Lewis after two decades?

We are surely not living in the early 2000s, are we? But it seems the two boxing giants might clash again. It’s Mike Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis. Just like the good old days. However, the dream match hinges on one condition.

Tyson, 58, will mark his return to the squared circle, as he puts his professional record on the line against Jake Paul on November 15. But if he comes out victorious, it will potentially open the door to a rematch with the former British-Canadian champion. The two had a run-in in 2002, where ‘Iron Mike’ suffered a KO loss to The Lion. Maybe a motivation for a revenge match could make the offer more tempting.

Lewis, 59, expressed his desire to book a date with Tyson in a conversation with TMZ Sports. The only condition is Tyson, at 50-6, is still in peak physical condition after brushing aside ‘The Problem Child’. He continued, “Let’s see how he makes out in this fight, and then I’ll tell you after. We’ve spoken about fighting, but he’s got this fight coming up. If he’s in good shape, he should be able to take it. C’mon baby! Let’s have it!”

But where does ‘The Lion’ stand regarding the Paul vs. Tyson fight? Is he inclined toward a new-generation fighter? Or is he sticking with his old foe and banking on him to bag a win?

Lewis, at 41-2-1, believed Tyson was smart enough to pick a pick he knew he was going to win. In addition, he explained that the former world champion was a boxer, and knew how to protect himself, throw body punches, and cut off the ring. All these factors would aid Tyson to secure a win.

But according to the West Ham native, it also depended on Tyson’s mobility and whether he could move fast around the ring when trying to exchange punches with a younger competitor. Lewis then added, “I haven’t seen him lately to know if he can take it. But I have seen him looking muscular. So, of course, he can take it if he is in good shape.”

Have an interesting take?

Lewis is hoping for a Tyson win so that it could help them fix an exhibition date for their exhibition. Notably, when Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr., he had commenced talks with Tyson’s camp for a fight. But those talks never materialized into anything. Now it could be a chance to give fans what they want.
