Is Jake Paul a bigger threat to boxing than Mike Tyson's health at 58?

A big contender for the biggest fight of the year—Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson—is due on November 15th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, not everyone is happy about the fight happening because of Tyson’s age, who is 58 years old. People fear injury and trauma to the head may turn the fight into a tragic affair.

The same thing, a reporter from Boxing News brought up during a conversation with former undisputed heavyweight champion, and Tyson’s old rival, Lennox Lewis, during their conversation. However, ‘The Lion’ Lewis claimed he is more worried about ‘The Problem Child’ than Mike Tyson.

Lewis shrugs off Jake Paul’s threat

Lennox Lewis seemed to be extremely confident about his answer on the topic, as he ignored the obvious and questioned, “What are [people] concerned about?” When the reporter expressed the concerns people have about their beloved boxing legend going up against a guy like Paul, who is known to knock people out, Lewis explained why things may not be so grim.

“I mean Mike Tyson knows how to defend himself and he’s boxing against a guy that is not as good of a boxer as he is,” Lewis said. He elaborated on his point, claiming Mike Tyson, whom he fought back in June 2002 and won the fight via 8th-round knockout, knows quite well how to throw a punch, and more importantly, he knows how to break his opponents down systematically.

This led Lennox Lewis to be more concerned about Jake Paul than his old rival. “I’m more concerned about the other guy than Mike Tyson,” Lewis said. Interestingly, the fight is structured to give Tyson the edge. First of all, the fight would consist of eight rounds. On top of that, those rounds are two minutes long.

This will allow Tyson to keep up with his Cleveland-born opponent. However, several things could go wrong, especially an accidental punch that lands too hard. Not to mention, Tyson suffers from sciatica, which causes numbness and can also render the lower part of the body immobile sometimes.

Mike Tyson even suffered an ulcer flair-up during a cross-country flight back in May, which caused the fight to be pushed to November from July. Despite this, Tyson claims he is fit and ready to get back in the ring to fight Paul. Meanwhile, Lennox Lewis revealed he would also consider coming out of retirement for a fight.

Lennox Lewis may return to the ring after Mike Tyson on one condition

‘The Lion’ has had one of the most decorated careers in boxing. Out of his 44 total bouts, he won 41 bouts and won 32 of those by the way of knockouts. He first achieved undisputed status back in 1999 after defeating Evander Hollyfield and has defeated the likes of Vitali Klitschko, Shannon Briggs, Hasim Rahman, Frank Bruno, Mike Tyson, and others.

It goes without saying that Lewis’ return to the ring would be legendary with those credentials. So, when the reporter from Boxing News probed him about a potential return like Mike Tyson’s, Lewis’ answer was exciting, to say the least. Responding to the reporter’s question, Lewis said, “Depends on what the price is.”

That being said, Lennox Lews clearly has enough confidence in his former rival that he feels Mike Tyson will survive the fight against Jake Paul. But the bigger question is, can Tyson win the fight?
