Does Lennox Lewis have a point, or is he underestimating Daniel Dubois's potential against Anthony Joshua?

Having achieved everything in the sport, former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has a clear picture of what the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight will look like. The Duo will lock horns on September 21st at the Wembley Stadium in England for the IBF heavyweight title. Meanwhile, Lewis feels Dubois has a major weakness that Joshua could exploit easily.

Although Dubois is seen as a major underdog, he and Anthony Joshua share a common opponent in Oleksandr Usyk, who has defeated both fighters—twice for Joshua and once for Dubois. Lennox Lewis mentioned this during his conversation with Ring Magazine. “[Joshua’s] advantage is his experience. The fact he’s been in against Oleksandr Usyk twice, he’s boxed over in America, big stadium events, and has high-profile trainers,” Lewis said.

However, he wasn’t counting Dubois out completely. Highlighting Dubois’ knockdown that was ruled a low blow, Lewis added, “This is something not a lot of people can do.” After a bit of speculating about the matchup, he said, “I think it can go either way because both of them have a good shot.”

Lewis seemed to go back and forth a lot about this fight, as he further speculated that the balance was tipping slightly in Joshua’s favor, but not by much. He felt if Dubois made good use of his opportunity against Anthony Joshua, “Anything can happen in this.” Despite that, the retired world champion had one concern about Dubois.

He highlighted the Joe Joyce fight, which saw Dubois lose via a 10th-round knockout. Lewis believes Joyce’s success came because of his jab. “I’m looking at the Joe Joyce fight, and Joyce was catching him with jabs. I believe Joshua has a way better jab than Joyce,” Lewis said. This led Lewis to expose Dubois’ biggest weakness.

He said, “That’s what’s going to be Daniel’s weakness. If he doesn’t get his jab going, if he allows AJ to get his jab going first, that’s the problem.” At long last, he then offered a clearer prediction for the fight, stating, “Joshua by stoppage,” while adding that the stoppage would probably happen in the later rounds of the fight. Meanwhile, others have also shared their prediction of the fight that could see 90,000 people in the stadium.

Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois: Unconvinced prediction

What’s your perspective on:

Does Lennox Lewis have a point, or is he underestimating Daniel Dubois's potential against Anthony Joshua?

Have an interesting take?

Former IBO super middleweight champion George Groves has shared his prediction for this weekend’s heavyweight bonanza between Joshua and Dubois—though it came with some reservations. In a conversation with TNT Sports, Groves said, “In the past, we have seen Joshua unravel a little bit. When he gets caught now, does he have the experience to weather the storm and get himself back in the fight?”

He added, “Or is Dubois going to be too slick, too fresh, and be able to finish him?” Despite these concerns, Groves ultimately picked Joshua to win, saying, “I’ll go [with] Joshua,” though he admitted he was “not convinced” about the outcome. With that, all that is left is to wait for the predictions to play out in real life.
