Undoubtedly Muhammad Ali is among the greatest boxers of all time, but there is a strange fact that left legendary promoter Lou Di Bella stunned. Despite being the best boxer, surprisingly there are no United States Postal Services stamps (USPS) on Ali’s name yet. Today there is a campaign running on Twitter as #GetTheChampAStamp by the Muhammad Ali fan club, Muhammad Ali Center. Bella retweeted that tweet and demanded a stamp. Even after being such a successful boxer and an icon in America, people feel that a USPS stamp on Ali’s name is a long time coming keeping in mind the legacy that he left behind.

Lou DiBella is astonished

USPS stamp is a USA postal stamp and it is used for the purpose of sending letters. Like the other countries’ stamps, USPS stamps also contains pictures of things of which a nation can be proud of or something very unique to the nation. It may be a very prominent national figure, a very famous celebrity, a monument, or a national symbol. And Muhammad Ali is someone that besides America, the whole world is proud of. Hardly anyone would disagree that he deserves the stamp.

Lou DiBella is not very happy with the aforewmentioned fact. He wrote on Twitter, “This actually is shocking to me. This is an easy fix, @USPS! #GettheChampaStamp.”

Not only his credentials inside the ring, but his activities off the ring is what made him earn the moniker of  ‘The Greatest’.

Muhammad Ali was beyond boxing

Yes! Ali was beyond boxing. But he had other achievements outside of the ring that made him a popular figure, especially to the black community. Ali was a key cultural figure in America and was tuned in to the politics of the country as it directly affected the community that he hailed from . He was an outspoken and open critic of the government.

For the uninitiated, Ali refused to be drafted for the Vietnam war . Ali criticized the draft through a press conference, stating that he did not want to kill innocent people.

Apart from that, Ali did multiple charity work and the public loved him for it. With all these qualities, is Ali not eligible to have his own USPS stamp?

The campaign was started for a very legit cause, and we hope that the concerned authorities will look into the matter. When promoters like Lou DiBella also attach himself to the cause, it lends more gravitas to the issue. Hopefully, Ali will get his USPS stamp soon.
