The lineal champion in three divisions, Oscar De La Hoya, is widely regarded as one of the most decorated figures in the sport of boxing. Moreover, De La Hoya was one of the sport’s knockout maestros. Throughout his career, he has had a myriad of sparring partners. However, post-retirement, it looks like he’s found the perfect sparring partner, his girlfriend, Holly Sonders.
In a recent Instagram story, Sonders posted a video of herself and De La Hoya celebrating Christmas with a fun sparring session. It showed a shirtless ‘Golden Boy’, donning pink boxing gloves. And preparing for a sparring session. He then proceeded to throw a few make-believe punches at Sonders. Talking about the session, Sonders wrote in the captions, “I’m not the best sparring partner lol. But I try.”

It seems like De La Hoya is living his life in retirement to the fullest.

De La Hoya retired from the sport in 2008. For his final professional bout, he faced Filipino boxing superstar, Manny Pacquiao, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. But, he lost the bout through an 8th-round corner stoppage. Meanwhile, he had announced multiple times that he wished to come out of retirement. However, he later cemented his decision to stay retired. De La Hoya addressed the same saying, “I feel complete now. Moreover, it looks like Sonders had a major role in his growth after retirement. Talking about the same, he said, “I’ve refocused, I have the energy. And I have a woman by my side who makes me feel like King Kong.”
It should be mentioned that Sonders is a sports presenter who is also an ex-golf star. And has been a constant pillar of support for De La Hoya and his personal brand, ‘Golden Boy Promotions’.
