During a recent interview with Sky Sports, Claressa Shields made her intentions crystal clear. “I want to fight everybody,” she declared, adding, “We’ve got some new blood on the scene. I’ve seen Lauren Price fight, and I was like, ‘Wow, pretty impressive.’” With her target now in sight, the two-time Olympic champion appears ready to hunt down her next challenge. But what about Price?

Game on! That seems to be the response from the English welterweight champion, herself an Olympic gold medalist, when she heard the callout from arguably the best female boxer on the planet. Wales-born Price, who became a world champion last May, kicked off the new year in style. She defeated Natasha Jonas just weeks ago and unified the division. Now she may be in line for a showdown with WBO champion Mikaela Mayer, who defeated Sandy Ryan just two days ago. But that doesn’t mean she’s unwilling to take on the biggest name in women’s boxing.

Claressa Shields vs. Lauren Price: Let’s make it happen!

Sky Sports reached out to Lauren Price and asked, “We also have to ask you about Claressa Shields. Is that another fight you’d entertain?” Her response? “Yeah, definitely,” Price affirmed. She continued, “You know, my full focus is on 147 lbs at the minute and becoming undisputed, but definitely a fight, you know, down the line. I would love to share the ring with her, obviously an Olympic champion as well. Double Olympic champion, I’m an Olympic champion; it’s a great fight to make. Yeah, definitely.

It seems both Shields and Price are keen for a face-off. But there’s a catch. The sheer weight difference could pose a challenge. With a second-round KO win over Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, Shields marked her heavyweight debut on July 27 last year.

She returned on February 2 and secured a unanimous win over Danielle Perkins. The triumph helped her secure a place in history as the first-ever three-division undisputed champion. So having conquered the highest weight class, Shields is open to a face-off with anyone.

But the road ahead is full of challenges

It seems she’s even willing to drop as low as 154 pounds, i.e., light middleweight. “Yeah, that’s the lowest I can get,” Shields confirmed during the interview with Sky Sports. That means if the fight is to happen, Price may have to move up in weight. Never one to back down from a challenge or a bit of banter, Shields added, “And if she wants to fight at 160 [middleweight], too, don’t be afraid to eat a hamburger and come on up.

Beyond the weight debate, another factor complicates the matchup: Mikaela Mayer. Following her victory over Sandy Ryan, Mayer made it clear in a post-fight interview that her immediate focus isn’t on Shields but on a potential clash with Price.

“I don’t think Claressa is next; she’s still working to come down,” said Mayer, adding, “And you know I’m in position now to go Undisputed, so that was my original goal, and I fell short at lightweight, so I’m here. I got my second chance, and I’m going to go for undisputed at welterweight, and it’s time for me and Lauren Price’s people to start negotiating.”
