Stephen Fulton has seen a sharp career downturn after his loss to Naoya Inoue in July last year. Not only has he not fought for over a year, but now it appears that he has been relegated to headlining the lead-in card (part of telecast) for PBC’s Amazon Prime Video pay-per-view card headlined by Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga. This led to, not too long ago, ‘Cool Boy Steph’ losing his cool on social media.
Fulton, 30, will look to rebuild his career and take his first step towards establishing himself as one of the more skilled fighters in the sport by fighting Carlos Castro of Mexico in a ten-round non-title fight. Meanwhile, as he expressed his frustration about not being on the main card on September 14th at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, veteran boxing matchmaker and fervent PBC critic, Rick Glaser quickly gave him a harsh reality check, putting all the blame on his arch-enemy Al Haymon, the head of PBC.

Back on 10th August, Fulton took to X, sharing his thoughts about fighting in the prelims, writing in a now-deleted tweet, “Mfs put me on prelims! either I’m a** or I’m Horse s**t either way this s**t, kiss my a**!” Fulton’s relationship with Premier Boxing Championship goes way back when the now 30-year-old made his debut in professional boxing.
Immediately after defeating Issac Badger via a second-round technical knockout in 2014, the Philadelphia native signed with the PBC. His biggest fight to date was against the undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue, which he lost via an eighth-round technical knockout. Regardless, Glaser responded to this writing, “Not happy about being in prelims, he got KO’ed in his last fight, hasn’t fought in over a year!!!!”
Not happy about being in prelims, he got KO’ed in his last fight, hasn’t fought in over a year!!!! In reality @coolboysteph should be upset with himself that he actually stayed with PBC!!! That’s the real issue!

This wasn’t the end, though. Seeing Fulton is a PBC boxer, Glaser further added a sharp criticism directed at PBC and Al Haymon: “In reality @coolboysteph should be upset with himself that he actually stayed with PBC!!! That’s the real issue!” While Fulton was clearly not happy about headlining the prelims, his statement a few days ago suggested otherwise.

According to a report from Boxing Scene, surprisingly, Stephen Fulton is pumped about making his comeback on the lead-in card of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga fight. After his first loss to Naoya Inoue, this is a big chance for him. “I’m excited to get back in the ring,” Fulton said from a dressing room in Midtown Manhattan.

Reflecting on his return, he added, “It’s awesome to be back and fighting on a Canelo card,” which seems in contrast to what his tweet read. Regardless, Fulton, who unified the 122-pound belts with a win over Brandon Figueroa in 2021, showed respect for his opponent, stating, “I watched his fights live. He’s a good fighter.”
Having said that, it appears Stephen Fulton has mixed feelings about being sent to the prelims of Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga. However, there’s no doubt he has the talent to climb his way back to the top. What do you think? Was his relegation to the prelims fair?
