Who do you think has the edge—Lani Daniels' experience or Bolatito Oluwole's raw power?

Ironfist Promotions is gearing up for a significant event in Hamilton, New Zealand. Scheduled for September 7 at Claudelands Arena, among other contests, the card will feature WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker‘s younger brother, John Parker. The 30-year-old will face the Fijian Alivereti Kauyaca in a ten-round cruiserweight battle.

The main event is, however, the highly anticipated clash between reigning women’s light heavyweight champion Lani Daniels and challenger Bolatito Oluwole. The pair will battle it out for Daniels’ IBF light heavyweight title. Incidentally, both the boxers return to the ring after a gap of nine months. Let’s take a closer look at how Lani Daniels and Bolatito Oluwole measure up against each other ahead of this exciting matchup.

‘The Smiling Assassin’ turned 36 on July 15. In comparison, Bolatito Oluwole is just 22. Anthropometric details of Daniels are readily available. But the same couldn’t be confirmed for Oluwole. Born in Whangarei, New Zealand, Daniels stands 5 feet and 6 and a half inches, or 169 centimeters tall. Likewise, the light heavyweight champion enjoys a hand reach of 67 inches or 170 centimeters.

The final weigh-ins of the match have yet to take place, making any mention of their current weight speculative. But if it helps to set the context on how both the boxers weighed during their last fights, Lani Daniels weighed around 168.5 pounds. On the other hand, Bolatito Oluwole recorded 191 pounds.

Finally, when it comes to the records, the New Zealander certainly seems to enjoy an upper hand in terms of fight participation. Against Bolatito Oluwole’s nine professional matches, Lani Daniels has fought fourteen times. However, it should be noted that ‘The Smiling Assassin’s record includes 2 losses and 2 draws as well. Then only 1 bout out of her 10 wins came via early stoppage. Hence, her overall knockout-to-win rate of 10% stays way below Oluwole’s. The Nigerian fighter has yet to face any defeat. Given five of her victories were secured through knockouts, her knockout-to-win rate stands at nearly 56%.

Lani Daniels vs. Bolatito Oluwole: Outcome Assessment

Predicting the outcome of the September 7 title fight is challenging. However, reviewing each fighter’s journey to this point might offer some valuable insights. After a prolific amateur career that saw her become a multiple division champion in New Zealand, Lani Daniels switched over to professional boxing seven years ago. The initial two years were marred by setbacks. However, ‘The Smiling Assassin’ managed to secure a few regional titles. Her first attempt at a world title in 2019 resulted in a loss.

After the two successive draws against Tessa Tualevao in 2019, Lani Daniels stayed out of the ring for over 2 years, returning only by April 2022. She made a strong comeback, fighting four times last year. It includes her world championship win (heavyweight) over Alrie Meleisea on May 27. Except for her bout against Razel Mohammed, Daniels has often gone the distance in her matches. The light heavyweight title fight against Desley Robinson on December 2 was a majority decision win.

On the other hand, Bolatito Oluwole made her professional debut on October 17, 2021. Upping her game steadily each year, the Nigerian fighter had been equally active in the ring. Like Lani Daniels, she squared off against four opponents last year. It includes the Kenyan cruiserweight title win. Oluwole secured her last two bouts via unanimous decisions.

It’s worth noting that the match on September 7 would be Bolatito Oluwole’s first ten-round fight (of 2 minutes each). Lani Daniels has considerable experience in the format. However, the level of opposition Daniels faced in the past varies, with many of her opponents not being so young. The opponent she is going to face is almost 14 years her junior. Then, along with her youthful energy, Oluwole brings along powerful punches. This will be the first time Daniels faces a fighter known for power punching, adding another layer of intrigue to the bout.

Speaking to reporters after she arrived in New Zealand, Oluwole, the IBF and WBO number 1 ranked boxer, shared, “My confidence is 100 percent for this fight.” But then Lani Daniels, who reportedly dreams of a dream matchup against Claressa Shields, remains equally assured of inflicting Oluwole her first career loss. “And Oluwole ‘Black Tito, watch out. I want her to come the best that she can because it’s not going to finish. I’m going to finish it—with all respect,” she said.
