The combat sports world predicted it right when they said a rematch is all Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. needed to settle their feuds inside the ring. The WBA super featherweight champion’s team appealed to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) in hopes of overturning the controversial draw, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. On Friday, the commission confirmed what we already knew. They acknowledged that not recognizing the 9th-round knee was a mistake on the referee’s part, but the draw stands as is—no rewrites, no do-overs.

For Lamont Roach Jr., that pill was tough to swallow. But what can he do? Cry over spilled milk? Nope. Now, there’s only one way to make things right—run it back. So when’s the big rematch happening? Well, Roach’s promoter has a little something to say about that.

Is it all but done?

Earlier today, Thrill Boxing shared a small clip from Pro Box TV’s interview on Instagram. Lamont Roach promoter Gary Jonas says the rematch is close to a done deal 👀💥🥊,” the caption on the clip read. In the clip, the reporter wanted to know how soon the boxing community could expect a rematch now that the appeal has been rejected. Gary Jonas, in his reply, called it a “done deal,” though he admitted there are still some formalities to sort out. But make no mistake, the rematch is not far off. “Very close. It’s in my mind. It’s a done deal. But there are formalities,” the Canada-born promoter revealed.

And what makes this fight so interesting? According to Jonas, it’s all about the mindset. He believed Gervonta Davis would come back with a different energy. Why? Because the Baltimore native would “probably gonna be angry, probably more woken up, probably focused than he had been,” Jonas stated. Moreover, he added that this time, the 30-0 boxer might not even think about his retirement. Tank has been hinting retirement since last year. And if one goes by what the 30-year-old said earlier, he would have only 3 more fights before he hangs up the gloves. But he quickly changed his tune following the draw verdict on March 1.

Anyway, if Tank was caught slipping in the first fight, Jonas suggested he wouldn’t let that happen again. And “That’s the factor.” But what about The Reaper? Is he not fumed? Of course he is.

Lamont Roach Jr. ready to bet 250k on the Gervonta Davis rematch

Lamont Roach Jr. made several attempts to somehow alter the final verdict of the Brooklyn fight night on March 1. Seeing Gervonta Davis on his knees, he even turned at the ref. Steve Willis, and shouted, “Keep counting. He’s tripping. That’s a knockdown.” But that call went in vain. And the NYSAC appeal? Well, we know how it turned out.

Without any other options available, he is now desperate for a rematch. “Part 2,” he tweeted a few days back. It was still peaceful up to that point. But yesterday, the combat sports world saw him losing his cool. When Lorenzo Simpson tagged a user saying, “@shotbybrandoe wanna bet on the rematch,” the 29-year-old took it personally. The light heavyweight claimed that the 25-1 boxer simply got lucky, and next time when he locks horns with Tank, the latter would put him to sleep. Seeing the fellow boxer siding with Tank Davis, The Reaper fired back, saying, “Yea 250k just like I bet your role model… if you can show it to me we good money lil n***a.”

Well, as of now, we don’t know when they are gonna finalize the deal. But we know that Gervonta Davis wants to settle the business by the “end of May” itself. With both fighters sharper and more determined than ever, who do you think will come out on top this time?
