Everyone in the boxing world knows about the unshakable bond between Keyshawn Davis and Shakur Stevenson. From helping each other through depression, heartbreak, and the junior Olympics, the bond between the two is unshakable. There’s no drama, no rivalry, no shade — just mutual respect and solid brotherhood. But somehow, despite that being crystal clear, there are still people out there trying to stir the pot. You know the type — always looking for a “what if” moment.

After securing his first world title with a 4th-round TKO over the Ukrainian Denys Berinchyk, naturally, the next step for Keyshawn Davis was to find the right opponent to follow up on that momentum and make his first WBO title defense. And now, with Keyshawn Davis stepping up to fight Edwin De Los Santos — a guy Shakur Stevenson already faced and defeated in November 2023 — the chatter’s picked up again. People want to know how the WBC Lightweight champion feels about it. But the thing is, these guys are pros. They know how to keep business separate from brotherhood. And that’s exactly what Keyshawn Davis made clear during his recent interview.

It’s just another fight for Keyshawn Davis

During a conversation with FightHype after the official launch press conference, the reporter brought up what a lot of fans are already thinking. You know how it goes: ‘Will Keyshawn do better? Can he knock him out? What does Shakur think?’ And when FightHype’s Ron Goodall caught up with him at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, Virginia, trying to poke at that narrative, suggesting fans are gonna go on Twitter and make noise, Keyshawn Davis kept it 100. “I mean, it’s boxing, bro. They gonna say whatever they going they want to say, bro. It’s boxing at the end of the day,” Davis replied.

The Businessman then shared that he and the Newark native have already talked about all of this. “Like Shakur giving me advice of who I should spar and all that type of sh-t for this fight.” Moreover, he mentioned that, “He’s not taking it personal, bro. It’s nothing but another fight, another opponent.” Now that’s support.

As the interview proceeded, the reporter questioned again, “Like, did you call him like, ‘Look, they got De los Santos on the paper. Like, I’m I’mma pick him or and hell yeah, I’m going to get Zepeda like what what was that?'” To which the 13-0 boxer calmly responded: “No, I didn’t call him, bro. We real ni— Like, we don’t care about that, bro. Like, ni—- out here got to fight. We fighting for a living, my ni— So, we going to pick what’s the best fight is possible for the both of us.”

He even said that when the news broke, the 23-0 boxer didn’t bat an eye. With a fight scheduled for July 12 with William Zepeda, Shakur Stevenson knows the ropes and always has both their best interests at heart. So, according to the Norfolk native, Stevenson just texted Keyshawn Davis and said, “Yo, you should spar him.” The best part? Keyshawn Davis kind of called out the fact that fans and media don’t always understand that type of relationship. “But y’all don’t understand that,” The Businessman lamented. Confident in his chances against De Los Santos, Keyshawn Davis is already looking to his next opponent after a victory over the Dominican on June 7.

Keyshawn Davis knows where the bread comes from

Earlier this week, Lamont Roach Sr. sat down with FightHype TV and dropped a bit of a bombshell. He made it clear: after Gervonta “Tank” Davis, their eyes are set on Keyshawn Davis and that shiny new WBO lightweight title. Then fast-forward to Saturday — FightHype’s Ron Goodall caught up with Keyshawn Davis and asked him about Roach Sr.’s comments.

And Keyshawn Davis? Totally unfazed — and actually, kind of into it. He responded, “If he beat Tank, I would love to fight Lamont next. Like, if he beat Tank, like literally if he beat Tank, it’s only one fight to make in the lightweight division. Me versus Lamont. like it’s like for real. So, like if you beat Tank, bro, let’s fight.”

He added, “Lamont bro, I would love to fight you. I think you know we will make, you know decent amount of bread. I think it makes sense. If you want to fight me, I want to fight you, bro. Let’s make it happen.” That’s not just a call-out — that’s a man who knows how to play the game both in the ring and at the negotiation table.

Now, if things go Roach Jr.’s way, their camp will no doubt jump at the chance to make that fight. It makes all the sense in the world. So while Roach Jr. vs. Keyshawn Davis isn’t locked in just yet, if the dominoes fall the right way — and Roach pulls off the upset — it sounds like Keyshawn Davis’ ready to roll.
