Terence Crawford became a bit of a joke on Mexican Independence Day weekend. He was attending the UFC 306 (Noche UFC) event at the Las Vegas Sphere today with the chief architect of the Riyadh season, HE Turki Alalshikh, when he became the latest victim of the UFC broadcasting team error. As the cameras panned towards the two-time undisputed champion sitting cage side, the on-screen graphics wrongly labeled him as the “Grammy award and Pulitzer prize-winning musician Kendrick Lamar“. Since the blunder, he has become the butt of the joke for many boxing fans.
Additionally, Crawford was also spotted at the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga marquee boxing event, which was happening just a few miles away from the Sphere at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The cameras captured him having a heated altercation with WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who was there to support Canelo during the Edgar Berlanga fight. Videos showed Crawford reaching out toward Lopez with an outstretched hans, with the latter swatting away. Fight Hub TV posted the video on their Instagram handle with the caption, “Terence Crawford went at it with Teofimo Lopez earlier today during #CaneloBerlanga fight.” Thankfully, there were security personnel at the venue to separate the two boxers as they hurled insults at each other.

The world of combat sports is always unpredictable, but the brewing storm between Teofimo Lopez and Terence Crawford is the kind of drama fans live for. Teofimo, the fearless warrior, is eyeing a bold move—jumping two weight classes to face the undefeated ‘Bud’ Crawford at 154 pounds. Talk about audacity! But Crawford, ever the tactician, has his sights set on a bigger fish. The 36-year-old Nebraska native wants to clash with none other than Canelo Alvarez, the ‘face of boxing,’ at a solid 168-pound weight limit. It’s a fight that could go down as legendary, but there’s a catch—Canelo’s astronomical $150 million price tag for the showdown.
The twist? Canelo himself isn’t sold on the fight with Crawford. In a previous interview, he remarked that Teofimo Lopez deserves the shot at Crawford more than he does, a statement that left fans buzzing. “I’m not asking for that fight. I think Teofimo Lopez deserves it more than me,” said Canelo, tipping his hat to the young lion, eager to make history.
But don’t mistake this for respect between Lopez and Crawford. Their rivalry is drenched in bad blood. Crawford recently called Lopez “trash” during a Sports Center interview, sparking yet another chapter in their heated saga. Lopez, never one to bite his tongue, shot back after watching Crawford’s gritty decision win over Israel Madrimov. “I thought the age would start catching up at like 38, but it happened at 36,” Lopez quipped, all but calling Crawford a washed-up fighter after his hard-earned victory.
The tension between these two reached a boiling point again during a recent Canelo event, where their simmering beef took center stage. While some of the spotlight was stolen by a fumble at UFC Noche, Lopez and his crew had no problem taking shots at Crawford, playfully tossing around his new nickname—further stoking the flames of a rivalry that fans can’t wait to see explode. This is boxing at its finest: egos clashing, words flying, and the promise of a fight that could shake the very foundation of the sport.

One social media user had immense faith in Teofimo Lopez’s talent and doesn’t think that a bout with Terence Crawford would be a mismatch for him. They wrote, “Don’t doubt Teo, he shows out when he has to!” It would be unfair to underestimate Lopez in a contest with Crawford as he has defeated elite fighters like Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor.
A fan highlighted that Lopez engaging in a boxing match with Crawford could yield disastrous results. They remarked, “Teo don’t want that smoke.” Terence Crawford is the most decorated boxer, winning various world titles in four weight divisions. He is also undisputed in two weight divisions. What’s more? Crawford remains undefeated and has more wealth of experience in the boxing ring than Lopez.
Another fan hailed Terence Crawford as “Kendrick”, and hinted that he was the master at “sweet science’ and Teo was his pupil. They remarked, “Teo you will be a student of Kendrick.” Safe to say, Terence Crawford’s undefeated boxing record might have played a part in influencing the fan’s opinion.
