Although Errol Spence Jr. remained a three-time unified champion in the sport, Keith Thurman understands why ‘The Truth’ could not attain the status of ‘the greatest’. Likewise, while Spence Jr. currently remains busy preparing for his rematch against Terence Crawford, Keith Thurman argued that ‘The Truth’ is subordinate to several boxers at 147 lbs.
According to Thurman, Spence Jr. would not win against an opponent ‘One Time’ defeated in 2016. Therefore, given Spence Jr.’s current state, Keith Thurman greatly doubts if the rematch against Crawford would offer a potentially different outcome for the fans. Speaking to FightHype, here is what ‘One Time’ said.

In the wake of his defeat to Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr. claimed he was not physically at his best. Likewise, he hoped the rematch would take place at 154 lbs. In January this year, Sugar Ray Leonard claimed that the rematch between Crawford and Spence Jr. could witness a “different story“. However, ahead of his fight with Tim Tszyu, Keith Thurman felt otherwise.

On being asked if he expected a potentially different result from Crawford vs. Spence Jr. II, Thurman said, “I mean not in his current state. I don’t think anything different would happen.” And not just Terence Crawford, but, ‘One Time’ believes, in his current condition, Spence Jr. would lose against several top contenders in the division including Shawn Porter and Thurman himself.
However, before concluding, Thurman also lauded Spence Jr.’s achievements in the sport. In his opinion, although ‘The Truth’ may not defeat ‘Bud’, Spence Jr. should be proud of himself. “He was an Olympian, representing America as an amateur. Three-time unified champion. Lost to one of the greatest fighters of our era. He might have fallen short of being the greatest. But, he has not fallen short of greatness,” stated Keith Thurman.

Given Thurman’s statements, it seems Errol Spence Jr. would do much better if he retired from the sport at this stage. However, ‘The Truth’ is keen on fighting. In fact, after Conor Benn defeated Peter Dobson in his last fight, Spence Jr. took to X to snap up Benn’s attention. Probably, Benn is in Errol’s crosshairs too. Anyway, do you expect a different outcome from Spence vs. Crawford II? Let us know in the comments below.
