On August 3, Leonard Ellerbe shared on Twitter that he would book a fight between three-division world champion Gervonta Davis and former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman in “nanoseconds“. On the same day, he again tweeted out that Gervonta Davis is not a 147 lbs fighter but would still knock Keith Thurman out. He added that if Thurman is serious about this, he is only a phone call away.
However, Keith Thurman recently responded to Leonard Ellerbe calling him out for a fight with Tank Davis at welterweight. He said that if Tank has plans to move up to welterweight down the line, he will have no choice but to face him at some point.

Thurman added that he has only heard from Leonard Ellerbe and that Gervonta Davis himself has not yet spoken out about this. It seems the former welterweight champ is waiting for the 26-year-old to call him out personally.

“I saw Leonard Ellerbe make a comment on Twitter, that’s what came back to me from another somebody just like you. When you come at me with questions, Thurman has answers. They said he’s getting ready for this, he’s got an answer for Thurman.
“You said his coach said this and somebody said, where’s Tank Davis at?” said Keith Thurman.
When will Gervonta Davis fight next?
After securing an iconic win over Mario Barrios in June, the boxing community is eager to know more about Gervonta Davis’ plans. In July, ‘Tank’ tweeted out that he will fight again in October this year.
While Floyd Mayweather does not want Tank Davis to engage in cross-promotion matchups, he still has a lot of options to choose from at different weight classes.

If he decides to moves to 130 lbs, he will have the option to face PBC’s Chris Colbert. Other top contenders like Oscar Valdez, Jamel Herring, and Shakur Stevenson are involved with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions.
135 lbs is a packed division. It currently consists of top names in the sport like Teofimo Lopez, Vasyl Lomachenko, Devin Haney, and Ryan Garcia. However, all of these elite boxers have different promoters. At PBC, Davis can fight Rolando Romero and Javier Fortuna.
At 140 lbs, Regis Prograis and Mikey Garcia are the go-to matchups for Davis. With Mayweather’s policy of sticking to one promotion, his protege will not be able to face the division’s undisputed champion, Josh Taylor.

While going from lightweight to welterweight will be quite challenging, Leonard Ellerbe and Keith Thurman have now shown interest in setting up that fight at welterweight.

Apart from facing traditional boxers at multiple divisions, Gervonta Davis now also has the option of facing YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, who recently included Tank’s name in his ‘hit list’.
