The boxing world is well aware of the equation between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis. Mayweather Promotions has been promoting Davis since 2015. However, Davis split apart from the organization in 2022. After they parted ways, Mayweather expressed his admiration for the American boxer and claimed he would always love Tank.

Even though Mayweather was always complimentary of Davis, the latter typically expressed negative things about Mayweather. However, Davis expressed no hate for his former promoter in an interview ahead of his upcoming fight. He even praised Mayweather for his boxing prowess.

Tank is set to face Frank Martin on June 15th. He had not been inside the squared circle for the past 14 months. Ahead of his fight with Martin, Davis was questioned about his opinion on the best boxers in a Q&A. When asked which boxer he thinks has the best speed, he said Sugar Ray Leonard. While talking about the boxer with the best power, he named three-time world champion in two-weight classes, Julian Jackson, and former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

For footwork, he chose Hall of Famers Pernell Whittaker, also known as ‘Sweet Pea,’ and Sugar Ray Leonard. Following that, Davis stated, “Ring IQ, I gotta go with Floyd.” For the best chin, he was going to say himself, but he refrained and said, “I ain’t get hit in the button yet. I don’t know yet. I would say Floyd though because Floyd got flushed, you know, he was hurt bad. So I would say, Floyd. See, I’m not a hater.”

Perhaps, although the duo have parted ways, the two still hold each other in great regard. ‘Tank’ has become one of the biggest boxers of his generation, and Mayweather has been there with him while Davis was strutting his way upwards. Meanwhile, there are just a few days left for Davis’ fight with Martin. And he has already decided in which round he is going to knock him out.

Not too long ago, Davis took to his X account and wrote, “9!!” in a post. Fans quickly understood that he was telling Martin’s knockout round. On the other hand, Martin also stated in an interview, “Tank can be knocked out. You know, he ain’t exempt from getting knocked out. So if he getting there, act up, he gonna run into something. Or I might go get him.”

Both fighters are confident about knocking out each other. However, only time will tell how it plays out. Meanwhile, what do you think about Davis’ remarks about Mayweather? Share it in the comments below.
