It seems someone heard what fans wanted to see so desperately. It’s been two years since Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano faced off and created history. Theirs became the first-ever women’s fight to headline at the iconic Madison Square Garden. Ever since, fans have been calling out for a rematch.
Now, per the latest available news, the two undisputed champions will be meeting again. Only, this time, the rematch will take place far south. Incoming news reports reveal that Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will line up at the event headlined by the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson exhibition. It is scheduled for July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. So unlike the first fight, they might not be entering history on their own. But still, the event, where their bout features as the co-main fight, carries the weight of historical proportions. However, some of the fans were not too happy about this development.

On her X/Twitter handle, ‘The Real Deal’ wrote how she had promised her fans a rematch with Katie Taylor. She wanted it to be a twelve-round (each lasting 3 minutes) fight. However, the Irish champion insisted on continuing with the standard ten-round (of 2 minutes each) format. So Serrano mentioned that since Taylor’s title was at stake, it was decided to follow what the light welterweight champion demanded.
Finally!!! I promised my fans this rematch and I wanted it to be 12×3 minute rounds. But Katie wanted 10×2 – she’s the champ, so that is what we will do.
I believe I won our first fight, but I didn’t get the decision. This time I’m not leaving it to the judges. No more sweet… pic.twitter.com/2G5WbM2V4F

‘The Real Deal’ said, “I believe I won our first fight, but I didn’t get the decision. This time, I’m not leaving it to the judges. No more, sweet Serrano. War mentality activated. Thank you, Jordan, Nakisa, Jake, Mike, and Netflix, for making the biggest women’s boxing event ever. See you soon, Katie.”
A few minutes before her message, Ariel Helwani laid out the details: “Breaking: Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 2 will serve as the co-main event on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. The fight will be for Taylor’s undisputed gold at 140 and will be contested over 10, 2 minute rounds.”

He shared how both Taylor and Serrano fought out an all-time classic in April 2022. Now Netflix will air their rematch, which will take place in front of what many expect to be a huge crowd at the AT&T Stadium. But do fans think that the bout should be relegated to a co-main event?
Fans think the Serrano-Taylor bout deserves more respect
Quite a few fans seemed upset about the development. Voicing their concern, they shared that the Serrano-Taylor rematch deserves a better status than its current one as the co-main.

But a few users replying to Ariel Helwani’s post didn’t sound too enthusiastic. For such a high-profile match, this user, for instance, finds the Serrano-Taylor rematch relegated as the co-main event a bit rude.
This being co main seems disrespectful tbh. This is a really high level fight.

Likewise, this follower mentioned how the Serrano-Taylor match stands on better footing than the Mike Tyson–Jake Paul exhibition. They rate the 2022 fight between the two champions as epic.
@Jared29581826 bro this is better then the main event. The first fight between these 2 was ELITE

The points raised by the followers do carry some weight, after all. While you have an undisputed fight on one hand, on the other, you have an exhibition. So which should go as the event headline?

Undoubtedly, as one of the users pointed out, the Taylor-Serrano fight is a match of matches. Two pioneers of women’s boxing are clashing once again. Both icons might have a lot in common in terms of legacy. However, Katie Taylor will be 38 when the match occurs. Then it’s her undisputed title that’ll be on the line. So with her exceptional amateur record, followed by a path-breaking professional journey, probably a lot more could be at stake for her than her Puerto Rican counterpart.
