Can Amanda Serrano's power finally topple Katie Taylor's tactical brilliance in their much-anticipated rematch?

Amanda Serrano was dejected and utterly disappointed when she left the Madison Square Garden almost two years ago. The reason? She believed she had given her all and deserved a win against Katie Taylor. However, the judges didn’t see it that way. But now she has the opportunity to exact revenge and do what she couldn’t do last time—claiming the undisputed crown and defeating the Irish champion. But will the second time be the charm?

The fans will find it out as they witness the two titans of women’s boxing clash on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The high-stakes fight will have Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight title on the line and also act as the supporting act to the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul headliner. Before the action goes live, let’s have a look at how the two boxers stack up.

Serrano, 36, is your typical aggressive fighter, who likes to unload punches in high volume and has the stamina to push on forward pressure throughout the fight. The Puerto Rican champion overwhelms her opponents with her relentless approach, and the same has ensured her splendid rise in the boxing world. You can attribute her success across multiple divisions to her perfect blend of power punching and strong technical base. Therefore, it’s no wonder she currently boasts an impressive record of 47-2-1 with 31 KOs.

What truly sets the super featherweight champion apart is her power, which is reflected in her KO ratio of 65.96%. While Serrano doesn’t have the tallest stature, she knows how to use her dimensions. She stands tall at 5’5″ (166 cm) and carries a reach of 65″ (166 cm), which she uses to cut the distance to her competitors and catch them lacking. However, this style is in stark contrast to Taylor’s.

Taylor, 38, is the older of the two, yet has fought fewer fights. But she has impressed the fans and pundits with her speed, technical prowess, and excellent footwork. You look at her fights, and you can realize how she has built her career around discipline and a strategic approach. The fans are used to witnessing the undisputed champion outmaneuvering her foes, and her record of 23-1 with 6 KOs suggests the same. Her swiftness and tendency to move away from her challengers’ hitting arc make her a formidable fighter. Her KO ratio of 26.09% also hints toward it.

Interestingly, nothing separates the two on paper. The Bray native also shares an identical height of 5’5″ (165 cm). But it’s her one-inch reach advantage at 66″ (168 cm) because of her long levers that give her a marginal tactical edge. Not to mention her fighting at the comfortable weight class, compared to the challenger, who is moving up in the class. Will it all shift the tide in her favor?

Serrano has tried to get accustomed to the weight class, as she last fought at the super lightweight limit in her last fight against Stevie Morgan. This allowed her to adjust to the 140 limit and add more power behind her punches. ‘The Real Deal’ did finish her fight with Morgan with a round two knockout, raising alarm for the champion. What’s more? Her high-output approach and power had pushed Taylor to the ropes the last time, and she would look to push for more decisive blows this time.

Meanwhile, Taylor has appeared a bit shaky in her last two fights against Chantelle Cameron. Despite that, she has demonstrated her defensive skills, agility, and ability to withstand pressure. Not to forget, her last fight was a year ago. So ring rust may very well play a role.

Picking a clear winner is a tough task this time. But given Serrano’s last performance in their last encounter, her recent form, activity, and adjustments to feel comfortable at 140, tip the scales in her favor. You can easily make the case for Taylor too, because of the stylistic matchup, conditioning, and resilience. It is truly a fight between a boxer and a fighter.
