Kanye West in boxing? Has Derek Chisora lost his mind or is this genius at work?

Anthony Joshua‘s knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois has raised a lot of questions. One afterthought, in particular, casts doubts on whether the highly anticipated match between him and Deontay Wilder still has a chance. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has been through a rough path following consecutive defeats. His bad streak commenced with the surprise loss to Joseph Parker last December. Things didn’t improve when he faced Zhilei Zhang on June 1 this year.

Ever since, like Joshua now, questions over his future in boxing have steadily unfolded. The former world champion from Alabama made it clear that he was going to stick around for some more time. Nevertheless, a new video may add a fresh twist to the Wilder story. It features heavyweight challenger Derek Chisora conversing with Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, leading to some intriguing questions. And to underscore the impact—the famous Kanye ‘Ye’ West meme followed!

It seems ‘Del Boy’ caught up with Scott in London as the Philadelphia-born former heavyweight boxer visited the city to see the Joshua-Dubois fight. Emphasizing how much he admired Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora asked Malik Scott for the reasons behind the loss to ‘Big Bang’ Zhang.

Bro, what happened because, you know, he checked a punch, turned around, and what was up with? What was going on, bro?” asked Chisora. Stating it matter-of-factly, Wilder’s trainer stressed that in Zhilei Zhang, his charges faced one of the most formidable hitters in the heavyweight division. Especially considering the fact that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ faced a southpaw after a long time made the situation further challenging.

But it seems the explanation only ended up confusing Chisora. He prominently highlighted an old video that featured Deontay Wilder spinning quickly in a ring while Scott stood in front of him. He said, “Hold on, I’ve got to come back because you’re doing the pads, and you’re turning around and something like that.” Scott nevertheless had his doubts; he wanted to know whether the sequence occurred while he was training wilder.

Derek Chisora explained that it didn’t appear that Deontay Wilder applied the technique while Malik Scott trained him. In all probability, it must have taken place after the duo were through with the pad work. The trainer still found the probability of his famous pupil executing such technique a bit far-fetched. He checked if Chisora could share the footage with him. The Zimbabwe-born two-time heavyweight challenger clarified that he didn’t have access to it for the time being.

You see me training Deontay on pads, and he did a spin move?” asked Malik Scott to confirm. “He done a spin move, yeah,” replied Derek Chisora. The next sequence on the video shows the footage showcasing Deontay Wilder spinning and reaching Scott’s left. The latter follows, turning on his lead leg to face Wilder.

In the background, one could hear Kanye ‘Ye’ West’s famous phrase “Gotcha,” adding a humorous touch to the exchange. Finally, when he checked Scott for Wilder’s tentative return, the response came, “We’ll see.

The Shock

Promising that he will be back after the loss to Joseph Parker, everyone expected Deontay Wilder to turn the tables on Zhilei Zhang, who himself came off a defeat to Parker early in March. But on June, fighting on the Dmitry BivolMalik Zinad-headlined Queensbury versus Matchroom 5X5 card, the Chinese heavyweight first caught Wilder with a deadly right hook.

It stunned stunned Wilder, who walked back. Quickly rushing behind, Zhang once again threw a right hook and closed the deal. One can only guess why the whole scenario left so many questions for Derek Chisora.
