When the gong heralded the onset of the clash, Jermell Charlo brought his crusade against one of the best fighters in the realm today. But as the rounds progressed, it was clear that he had fallen short. With Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez inching closer to victory with each jab he took, spectators at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas braced themselves for the prediction that took its course. On the 30th of September, Alvarez defended his super middleweight titles against Charlo.
This loss was not an easy one for the younger Charlo brother. After his older twin, Jermall Charlo, excused himself from the matchup citing personal reasons, the massive payout fight fell in his lap. It was the biggest fight of his career. He was also moving up two weight classes for this fight. With his loss to Alvarez, the worst has come to him. Not only has he lost the biggest fight of his career, but also his WBO light-middleweight title as well. And who took it, or rather, who was it given to? Tim Tszyu.

Saturday night was not kind to Charlo. With expectations soaring high, the fighter was hardly able to establish his presence in the ring. Throughout the 12 rounds, spectators stood by as Charlo was being heavily battered by his opponent. So much so that his crusade seemed like an attempt to survive. With Canelo giving him his second-ever defeat, he was also the recipient of scathing criticisms. Furthering this criticism was another fighter, Tim Tszyu. Tszyu said, “I felt like Charlo just went in there to survive, he never made it competitive. You’ve got to go out there to win.”

The moment when the fight began, Charlo had lost his undisputed status. The WBO title that he had so vehemently fought for had been revoked. Now assuming the title was another light-middleweight fighter, Tim Tszyu.
Terence Crawford opines too
Present at T-Mobile Arena was the unified welterweight champion, Terence Crawford. And of course, he had things to say too. After having witnessed the match, Crawford became candid. Calling out Charlo for his performance, ‘Bud’ said, “Man Charlo gave him too much respect man. Too much. He didn’t fight his fight.”
But that was not all he had to say. As the news of Charlo going up the weight to fight Canelo came out, the fighter also vowed to go down the weights at 147 to fight Bud. While Bud seemed to have entertained this idea before his fight, now it seems like he’s not interested in it. He said, “Ok y’all I’m over @TwinCharlo he’s no longer on my hit list. He went out there and laid down and let Canelo spank him like he was his daddy with no type of resistance.”

After his infamous victory against Errol Spence Jr., Bud had shown an interest in fighting Canelo. But the latter dismissed them, citing weight issues. However, after Canelo’s victory against Charlo, Crawford wrote in a Twitter post, “Congratulations @Canelo you made the so called lion look like a baby cub.”
