“Just Not Quite World-Class”: Canelo Alvarez’s Brother Gets Knocked Out by Former Rival in Viral Video

Canelo Alvarez is one of the best boxers in recent times. His achievements are unprecedented and his career have a monumental impact on the sport. He is set to make his return against United Kingdom’s John Ryder. The bout will take place in his backyard, in Guadalajara, Mexico on the 6th of May. He will make his return after more than 7 months and the fans are eagerly waiting to see the undisputed super middleweight champion showcase his talent.

Hardly ever has Alvarez looked completely out-skilled. Due to this, he has developed a sense of aura around him. Though, the same cannot be said about his older brother.

Alvarez’s older brother gets brutally knocked out by Erislandy Lara

Ramon Alvarez, the older brother of Canelo Alvarez is himself  a professional boxer. The 36-year-old made his professional debut in 2008 and has 41 bouts under his belt. Recently, he fought Erislandy Lara who had previously fought Alvarez. In their bout in 2014, Alvarez managed to sweep a split-decision victory.

In the year 2019, to avenge his loss, Lara fought his older brother and knocked him out cold. Inside two rounds, Lara managed to get a beautiful finish. Recently, on Reddit the final few seconds of the bout resurfaced. @Eeluminati posted the clip with the caption, “Erislandy Lara KO’s Canelo’s older brother, Ramon Alvarez.”

While, another on similar lines mentioned that out of all the Alvarez brothers, only Canelo truly has boxing acumen. @Polk14: “Neither Ramon, Ricardo or Rigoberto had the chops that Canelo has. The three of them were not bad fighters, just not quite world class. No shame in losing to Lara. He also gave Canelo all he could handle. Nothing wrong with not being world class either. It applies to 99.9 percent of boxers.”

On the contrary, one fan was in awe of the fact that Lara still competes. @Kind_Owl_6808: “Lara was at one time a deeply dangerous world class fighter. Floyd retired the first time when there was a lot of talk about Floyd/Lara at 154. Would have been a great fight. Shocking that Lara is still fighting.”

Lastly, one fan pointed out how Alvarez missed the weight. @Eeluminati: “Ramon missed the 154 lb limit by 4 1/2 lbs coming in at 158 1/2. He would then rehydrate to 178 lbs but the weight advantage wouldn’t make up for the skill difference”
