The boxing world just witnessed another controversial victory. It all took place as the WBA, WBO, and IBF unified Heavyweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk defended his title against the talented British boxer Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian managed to retain his titles as he knocked out Dubois in the 9th round of the match-up. However, this victory is certainly not one without its share of controversy and criticisms.

The controversial moment arrived when during one point of the bout, ‘Triple D’ landed a heavy shot on Usyk’s body. This blow floored the Ukrainian and he was gasping for air. However, the referee ruled that the shot was a low blow and gave time to Usyk to get it together. The champion recovered and the result created history. This left a lot of boxing fans with a bitter taste in their mouth. Recently, Derek Chisora advised the use of VAR to prevent such decisions in the future.

According to Mail Sport, Chisora stated that other sports like Tennis, and Football already have it and that “we need it in boxing.” It is to be noted that the technology has been used previously and has helped Julio Cesar Martinez achieve a victory against Ronal Batista. It was also in use during the momentous clash between Tommy Fury and Jake Paul earlier this year.

Fans’ response to Chisora’s call for VAR use after the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois

As Chisora’s statement reached the fans, they could not agree more. Many fans were still left infuriated by the result of the fight between Usyk and Dubois. One fan pointed out that the hit that floored Usyk was “on the belt” rather than what the referee claimed to be below the belt.

Another fan claimed that even if the technology was being used during the bout, and the referee was viewing in the VAR, it would have still given the champion enough time to recover. He wrote, “If the ref viewed it on VAR, Usyk would still have had enough time to recover.”

However, someone else shared his agreement with the suggestion. They stated that it would be a “good idea” as the referee can then view multiple angles. They claimed that it would help the referee “make the right decision.”

One fan warned and advised that they should not simply copy the model used by Premier Leagues. They wrote, “Just don’t copy the Premier leagues model.”

Another fan claimed that he didn’t care about the fight. The fan only wants to watch Usyk facing Tyson Fury. However, he stated that he believes it will never take place. He also wrote, “I dont know why Fury is so scared of someone ao smaller than him…”
