There are always two sides to a story. Josh Taylor has iterated his side of the story about his potential rematch against Jack Catterall, and it marks some discrepancies with the latter’s version.
In 2022, the two English fighters clashed in a Glasgow confrontation set to determine if Taylor would continue his reign as the undisputed super lightweight champion. At the end of the night, Taylor retained the titles, giving his southpaw counterpart his career’s first loss. Not one to give up easily, he sought a rematch to redeem himself from the scathing loss. 2 years later, reports of the rematch have emerged and Catterall has confirmed them as well. Taylor, too, has confirmed it. However, he provides certain clarifications that weren’t previously known.

Last night, at the Echo Arena of Liverpool, Natasha Jones successfully defended her IBF welterweight belt against Mikaela Mayer. Present at the venue was ‘The Tartan Tornado’ Taylor. After relaying his bits about the Jones-Mayer fight, he was probed about his take on the potential Catterall rematch.
While confirming that the bout will eventually take place, Taylor informed iFL TV that a deal has not been inked yet. His revelation comes in contradiction to what Catteral had earlier said. In his conversation with iFL TV, ‘El Gato’ noted, “He’s accepted it so we’re now in that period now where just waiting for like a date and a venue so we can get it on.”
Countering the confirmation that Catteral had provided, Josh Taylor added, “I think he needs to stick to his crayons and his coloring in books… He just doesn’t know what’s happening but that’s the first time we heard… um we haven’t had any other offers from Matchroom to see when the fight is going to happen. So, but we’re in talks and we’re in discussions to see what’s happening, and that’s the fight that we want to happen next.”
The Jack Catterall fight remains one among the two or three that Taylor’s team has currently on the cards for him.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Taylor, who is coming from his career’s first loss against Teofimo Lopez last year, outlined his plans for 2024. He revealed, “We’re hoping to get out two or maybe three times this year. I’m hoping to get out maybe March or April time, then once in the summer. Then once at the end of the year.”
He further spoke about how he wants to make the year as productive as it can get. “I was coming into my prime after the [Regis] Prograis fight and then everything got cut right down. I felt all my momentum got chopped down and I’m looking to get back to more activity.” In 2019, Taylor defeated Regis Prograis via a majority decision to claim the latter’s WBA (Super) light welterweight title.
