Joseph Parker wants a big fight, and he wants it against Daniel Dubois. And the New Zealander is not hiding it anymore. He has thrown a gauntlet at the IBF champion and has made himself stand up for getting a title shot next. How is he doing it?
Parker, 32, is coming off a splendid win against Zhilei Zhang in March, for which he was awarded the WBO interim heavyweight title. As that win followed a victory over Deontay Wilder, he is just outside the champions in the hierarchy, waiting for his title opportunity. With Anthony Joshua taking a plunge, he is now making his case for the top.
In a conversation with TalkSport, Parker, at 34-3, lauded Dubois, 27, for his past fights with fighters with great resumes. He said, “He looked great with vs Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua. “

Joseph Parker has called out Daniel Dubois for Feb 22nd: “He looked great with vs Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua. But there’s a difference. I’m fresh, I’m hungry and ready to go. I’ve been waiting since March for a big fight, let’s get it on now.” [@talkSPORT] pic.twitter.com/veBABXw57k

However, the interim champion then pointed out what separated him from them. He continued, “But there’s a difference. I’m fresh, I’m hungry, and ready to go. I’ve been waiting since March for a big fight. Let’s get it on now.”
The former WBO champion might have to wait for a while for his title shot, as there are rumors and speculations of ‘AJ’ and ‘Triple D’ running it back for the IBF gold strap. But Joshua, 34, needs more time to recover from the loss, and it might open doors for a match between Dubois and Parker. Dubios’ camp is targeting a February 22 date as the closing of the Riyadh Season.

What’s your perspective on:

Parker’s promoter, David Higgins, also specified his interest in making the fight. He pointed out that it would be the fight to make besides the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. He said, “Whenever, anywhere, anytime. Joseph would love to fight Daniel Dubois next. He’s chomping at the bit. Joseph is ready to fight anyone. But if he was given the opportunity to fight Daniel Dubois, he’d grab it with both hands and he would back himself to win.”
Interestingly, a fight between Parker and Dubios also depends on other factors. The IBF recently ordered a title eliminator between Martin Bakole and Agit Kabayel and ordered the purse bid for November 5. The fight will determine the next mandatory challenger for Dubios and then it remains to be seen how a fight between Dubios and Parker would be planned out.
