After two failed plans, super lightweight champ Jose Ramirez will put his belt on the line against Viktor Postol. However, for the undefeated Ramirez, the fight against Postol is a mere stepping stone towards a bigger goal.

Ramirez holds the WBC/WBO 140-pounds belts. Nonetheless, the former Olympian is keeping an eye out for the other two belts that are not with him right now. Instead, it is IBF/WBA champion, Josh Taylor who has the remaining silverware that Ramirez is looking for.

The fight between Taylor and Ramirez could be a blockbuster pairing that will turn a lot of heads. Before they get their hands on each other, they will have to give their respective mandatory challengers a shot. This is where former WBC light-welterweight champion, Postol, comes into the picture.

The Ukrainian will take on Ramirez on Aug 29 later this month. While he will look to regain the champ status, Ramirez has his sight set on becoming the undisputed champ.

My goal is to become the undisputed champ and this is one step closer,” Jose Ramirez said while discussing the importance of the Postol fight.

Jose Ramirez vs Viktor Postol has already been postponed twice this year

With a global pandemic playing spoiler to the entire sporting calendar of the year, the champ was one of the fighters who had to spend a lot of time in uncertainty. Ramirez was scheduled to take on Postol on Feb 2 in China earlier this year. The fight was later scheduled for May 9 in Fresno, California. Regardless, COVID-19 presented itself as an insurmountable hurdle on both occasions.

With boxing getting back on track, the two pugilists will now head into a ‘bubble’ ahead of their scheduled fight.

Despite the reschedulings, Ramirez has been investing the time in the gym.

“He is always in the gym staying in shape because you never know when that call might come that it is official. It is unfortunate that he had 2 dates postponed back in February and then in May. It is just hard times right now with this whole pandemic,” said Mikey Garcia, brother of Robert Garcia who trains Ramirez.

Do you think Ramirez can eventually get to the status of undisputed 140-pounds champion of the world?
