Showtime Sports’ decision to pull away from the sport of boxing has left many stakeholders concerned about the future of boxing. Paramount Global declared in October about the ceasing of all the operations associated with the sport of boxing. It was later explained by Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza that they’re putting a stop to the 37-year-long run to try out new things with their available resources. It had nothing to do with their performance and results from boxing.

However, still, this assurance wasn’t enough. This devastating news has caused havoc among the boxers as well as the promoters. Recently, Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford talked about the unity among the boxers to save the sport and do something about such a thing from happening again. Similarly, even the Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya also invited other promoters for a discussion on this topic.

Almost a couple of weeks ago, Oscar De La Hoya had already warned the promoters in the business about working in a distorted fashion. He proposed that all of them should work together to revive the sport and bring boxing to the pinnacle of combat sports. He even urged them to call him. However, as it seems, nothing like that happened. So De La Hoya has yet again appealed to his fellow promoters for a change.

On his X app, he directly tagged the fellow promoters this time. He stated that they needed to discuss the problems going on in the sport and eradicate them as soon as possible. So he advised, “I’m calling out [Bob Arum], [Al Haymon], [Eddie Hearn] @Dsalita to join me in a round table discussion and figure out how we give the fans the best fights possible.

So on one hand, De La Hoya believes the promoters should walk hand-in-hand. While, Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford believe that the boxers should work as a team too, if they want to save the sweet science from facing its doom.

Boxing needs a drastic change in the coming future

The fragmented nature of boxing is doing no good to anybody, neither the boxers nor the promoters. The viewers are getting diverted to other sports, and there needs to be unity in the sport. Ryan Garcia has pointed out this flaw, and he even voiced his opinion on the X app. He pointed out how the big boys of the game, Showtime, and HBO, are already out and this calls for an improvement of the way things are done in pugilism.

He also wrote, “All us boxers need to make this our collective fight. We gotta be thinking about marketing, new audiences, investors, global, all of it.” This claim was backed up by the undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford. He replied to Garcia’s post and wrote, “I couldnt agree more @RyanGarcia. The system we have isn’t going to fix this. We gotta think different. Look at every other sport is building empires by doing it right. Us fighters need to come together.

He also stated how they can fight in the squared circle, but work together in the favor of their sport and families at the same time as well.
