From his teenage years, John Gotti got mixed up with New York street gangs and also worked with the Fulton-Rockaway Boys gang for some time which was associated with the mafia. Before getting involved in organized crime, John Gotti did various odd jobs like being a presser in a coat factory and an assistant truck driver. According to official documents, Gotti was initiated into the Gambino family on Christmas Eve 1988 alongside his brothers Gene, Peter, Vincent, and Richard. He took over America’s most powerful crime syndicate by orchestrating the murder of Gambino boss Paul Castellano in 1985 and placing himself at the helm shortly thereafter.
As one of organized crime’s key figures, he oversaw several illegal operations which included money laundering, gambling, loansharking, prostitution, and extortion to name a few. However, it didn’t take long for law enforcement to catch wind of his criminal enterprise, and he was eventually arrested in 1992. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Eventually, he died of throat cancer while serving his sentence in jail in 2002.

However, Gotti III has not followed his father or grandfather’s footsteps. He has pursued a career in combat sports and will be fighting Floyd Mayweather again in an eight-round exhibition contest. Although Gotti III has lost his exhibition match against Floyd, he is undefeated in his professional career, with two matchups under his belt. He is also an MMA star, with affiliations to Long Island MMA.
As things stand, the Gotti family has completely severed their connection with the Gambino crime family. Meanwhile, the family initiated a feud with the Mayweather clan following the brawl between the two camps during the fighters’ first encounter.
