Gervonta Davis is arguably one of the most devastating punchers boxing has ever seen. While the list of all-time power punchers is traditionally dominated by heavyweights, Davis undoubtedly belongs among the likes of Jimmy Wilde, Sandy Saddler, and Carlos Zarate—boxers from the lighter-weight classes who are legendary for their punching power. With 28 knockouts in his 30-0 career, few can rival the Baltimore native’s explosive power in the ring. You need only ask Ryan Garcia, Frank Martin, and Rolando Romero—all of whom have felt Tank’s ferocious explosive power.
On March 1, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Lamont Roach will try to do the same. However, according to Joe Rogan, Gervonta Davis is a class apart. And from what Rogan thinks of Tank, Roach may have a hard time getting to the final bell in the twelfth round.

In a recent episode (#2257) of the Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator sat down with actor and comedian Bryan Callen. The conversation took them from UFC to Floyd Mayweather and his flawless defense, which allowed him to stay undefeated. Rogan termed ‘Money’ as the greatest boxer of all time because of his defensive skills. He also noted that despite having less power than his contemporaries and a weak hand, Mayweather defeated some of the best boxers of his generation with ease. “If you want to say who’s the best boxer of all time, I always say Floyd because he got hit less than anybody, and that’s the whole thing. And, by the way, he didn’t have the kind of power that any of these other guys had. Didn’t have that—like that Roy Jones Jr. power,” stated the UFC commentator.
“He wasn’t a robust guy, you know,” Joe Rogan continued. That is when Callen shifted the conversation and compared Mayweather to Gervonta Davis. “…Like what’s his name, Gervonta Davis or anything, right?” added Bryan Callen as he recalled Davis’ name. Rogan immediately agreed, stating, “Well, that’s a great example of a guy with just preposterous power.” He then summed up Davis in two words: “Preposterous power!”
Tank’s 93% KO ratio is enough to prove his power superiority over his contemporaries. However, a few years ago, Tank proved that his punching power even surpassed several heavyweights. A few years ago, during a TV appearance, Gervonta Davis took on the punch machine challenge against Deontay Wilder.
Wilder challenged the 30-0 boxer on live TV to break his existing record on the machine: 927. However, Gervonta Davis stepped in and smashed the record in just one try and scored a whopping 939 to everyone’s shock. His score even surpassed Anthony Joshua‘s who had scored 848 during his appearance on ‘The Graham Norton Show.’
While Joe Rogan did not explicitly mention Lamont Roach, the way he described Tank’s power, seems like it has already sealed Roach’s fate in the upcoming fight, at least for people like him. Furthermore, he is not the only one who thinks that ‘The Reaper’ will be out of his bounds against Gervonta Davis.

Boxing World predicts Lamont Roach’s fate
In a conversation with Fight Hub TV, Oscar De La Hoya, the Golden Boy discussed the fight and shared his prediction. The boxing legend acknowledged Roach’s skills but explained that “he might be a little over his head with Gervonta Davis. Gervonta Davis is, I mean, to say the least. He’s a beast. He really is.” De La Hoya seems to think that it will be a tough night for Roach to get out of but still expects an intense fight.
Boxing legend Bernard Hopkins also considers Tank as the heavy favorite going into the fight. In a conversation with Fight Hub TV, he claimed, “Tank Davis to me, he’s [going to] give anybody problems. The burden is on Roach or anybody else. In this case, it is Roach.” However, Hopkins also warned Davis to not underestimate the Washington native.

While promoters and legends have put Gervonta Davis as the favorite, the duo’s sparring partners, including Richardon Hitchins, Kevin Jerel Johnson, and Kenneth Sims, believe that it will be a much more even fight than everyone believes it to be. Johnson even claimed that, in contrast to everyone’s belief, the fight won’t end in a KO.
