Jake Paul and even Mike Tyson wouldn’t like this, but Joe Rogan doesn’t think the Netflix-exclusive event will happen. The legendary heavyweight was originally supposed to face ‘The Problem Child’ on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. But sadly, tragedy struck when ‘Iron Mike’ had “the most old man thing to get out of the fight”—a stomach ulcer!
While flying from Miami to Los Angeles, Tyson’s stomach ulcers flared up, which forced him to back out of the fight next month. But no, it isn’t canceled. It’s just pushed back to November 15. So, as a last-minute replacement, Paul is facing BKFC contender Mike Perry on July 20 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. It might have been a good save for Jake Paul, but Joe Rogan remains skeptical about the Mike Tyson fight even happening, something he revealed in the ‘Fight Companion’ segment of his popular podcast.
Accompanied by Brendan Schaub, Bryan Callen, and Brian Simpson on The Joe Rogan Experience, the gang started discussing the most hyped fights that were on the horizon. And, of course, the Paul-Tyson fight came up because how could it not? It’s the first cross-generational bout that has managed to get so much traction. So, Rogan revealed, “The Mike Tyson fight is supposed to be in November… supposed to be…” as a sense of doubt exuded his speech.

Joe Rogan continued, “But who knows if it’s ever going to happen? I mean, Mike has ulcers—he’s a 58-year-old man. That’s like a CEO problem to have.” Despite Rogan’s doubts, Mike seems ready for the challenge, and he even said so in his statement following the postponement of the fight. He said, “My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon.” However, the ulcer flare-up was quite extreme.
It happened around 30 minutes before his flight touched down in LA, and passengers couldn’t leave the flight for almost 25 minutes after landing while medical professionals treated Tyson. Considering this, several health concerns are plaguing the event following this discovery. A USA Today report, citing medical experts, suggests Tyson needs at least three to six weeks of recovery. The report also warns that a severe ulcer flare-up could even necessitate immediate surgery, which would be the worst outcome for Tyson. As for the fight promoter, they said something similar to Tyson.
“During a follow-up consultation with medical professionals, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations,” the statement read. With the fight getting postponed, Jake Paul expressed his disappointment, too. However, he’s still confident about his chances. Directing his words at the 57-year-old, Paul said, “This may have bought you some time. But in the end, you will still be knocked out.”
While it may seem like he’s confident the fight will happen (and he’s not showing Mike Tyson the respect he deserves), Paul talked to the New York Post recently, and his words contradicted both these claims. “If Tyson wants it, I’m down. The keys are in his hands. It would be such an honor to step in there with him,” the 27-year-old said, adding, “Mike Tyson is the one who wanted it to be a professional fight. He’s saying he’s fine [despite the problem]. We’re not Mike Tyson’s dad. We’re not his boss. If Mike Tyson wants the fight, it would be my honor, and I’m down to do it.”

Now that Mike Tyson has taken a break, chances are his ulcer won’t go untreated. Also, while Joe Rogan doubts Mike’s ability to fight as he approaches his 58th birthday on June 30, a retired world champion also feels the fight shouldn’t happen at all.
Ricky Hatton doesn’t think Tyson’s body can take the punishment
Even though the Paul-Tyson fight is sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, Tyson has to provide results from an electroencephalogram (EEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG) to prove he is fit to fight Paul. Regardless, Ricky Hatton isn’t convinced, as he told Lord Ping, “Someone needs to have a word and try and stop it from happening.”

Branding the influencer fight scene entertainment, Hatton suggested Tyson looks great for a 58-year-old, and he wouldn’t mind looking like him. He is even sure if Tyson lands a clean shot on Paul’s chin, the fight will be over. However, he said, “He’s 58. Can he maintain it? At his age, your body isn’t conditioned to take the punishment that will be coming back to you.”
Having said that, the sudden ulcer flare-up and the postponement have cast a shadow of doubt over the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event in November. Unfortunate, right? But it gives Tyson more time to prepare, and since he seems confident about fighting, what does anyone else’s opinion of him matter? But do you think Tyson should fight Paul?
