Can KSI really take down Mayweather, or is he biting off more than he can chew?

KSI might be facing two opponents in the ring, but it seems that it is ‘The Money’ that he wants badly. According to his trainer, the English YouTuber-turned-boxer reportedly seeks nothing less than a showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. The retired champion will soon deal with another angry opponent, John Gotti III, later in August. The scion of the Gambino family wants to set the record straight after what happened in the first match last year. So why is KSI eager to challenge Mayweather Jr. now?

It appears that the founder of Misfits Boxing wasn’t really happy with the way the undefeated former champion toyed around with his young brother, Deji Olatunji, when they fought in Dubai two years ago. KSI suffered his first loss to Tommy Fury on October 14th last year. Next month, he will be entering the ring to face not one but two pairs of gloves. The ‘outnumbered tag team match’ with Slim Albaher and Anthony Taylor will take place at Dublin’s 3Arena. His trainer shed some light on what the YouTuber-turned-boxer wants to do with Mayweather Jr.

Talking to The Sun Sport, Alexis Demetriades revealed that KSI is ‘upset’ with Floyd Mayweather Jr. because of the Deji fight. Alluding to ‘The Money’ team, he highlighted the last-minute change of gloves from size 14 ounces to 10 ounces. The London Shootfighters co-founder suggested that KSI’s younger brother was compensated additionally for taking on an added risk.

Demetriades continued, “And one of Mayweather’s camp came up to Deji and said, ‘If it gets a little bit hot and you’re in the clinch, just tell Floyd to calm down a little bit because it’s an exhibition and he’ll be with you.” Consequently, KSI has seemingly taken a strong dislike for how it went for Deji Olatunji.

He’s going to try and kill him. There’s animosity there. It’s on sight. Like JJ wants to kill him. That’s a fight he wants, said the head coach at London Shootfighters, pointing out that KSI would rather have an actual fight with the boxing great instead of the regular exhibition one. But perhaps he understands that it may sound preposterous to many boxing fans. At the end of the day, you are talking about a YouTuber going against one of boxing’s best.

Alexis Demetriades highlighted that KSI believes that he could win the grudge match. It boils down to the way one fights a bout; he stressed.

Winning a fight is not solely about achieving knockouts, he hinted. “There’s tangibles, right? Logan’s fought Floyd, Deji’s fought Floyd. JJ’s been in the ring with both those guys; there’s a tangible.” He said. From his point of view, the outcomes of mixed martial arts fights or boxing matches are not always predictable based on previous matchups. However, “There’s a tangible; you know what you’re dealing with a little bit,” Demetriades concluded.

In all likelihood, the revelation must have raised quite a few eyebrows by now. Is it an attempt to tempt a match with Mayweather Jr.? Many fans might be wondering. Nevertheless, even if it catches his attention, whether he is interested in pursuing it further is a different matter.

Secondly, how will it play out—a match between a man who walks around in cruiserweight limits and a retired boxer who hasn’t gone beyond 154-160 in his career? Will they fight a catchweight fight? Last but not least, let’s not forget that it is ultimately about an unbeaten, bona fide boxing great. He might be 47 years old, but as far as skills go, it will barely take any time for a fan to make their pick.

So how does a potential matchup between KSI and Floyd Mayweather take shape in your mind? Let us know in the comments below.
