Jermall Charlo had a run-in with the authorities as he drove under the influence and smashed his $260,000-worth red Lamborghini Urus into another car this Tuesday evening in Houston. The reports suggest that he fought with the other driver and fled the scene before the police arrived. When the police tried to pull him over, he offered resistance.

‘Hitman’ ignored the sirens and didn’t give up until the police cornered him at a red light about a mile from the accident site. The police took him to the Pearland jail, and ESPN reports that, when tested, the alcohol content in his blood was over 0.15. The prescribed legal limit is .08. The police then recorded that the American boxer was devoid of “normal use of his mental and physical faculties.”

The Pearland Police Department public information officer Chad Rogers said the boxer has three counts to his name. Namely, driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of an accident, and lastly, eluding the police. Later, Charlo was transferred to the Brazoria County Jail. The middleweight fighter had to pay a $9,500 security bond for his release. Moreover, the estimated damages caused by his action stand at around $200 at the crash site.

Charlo’s attorney, Kent Schaffer, clarified to TMZ that the fighter was in training and, therefore, wasn’t under the influence of drugs. He also informed the website that no one was injured in the crash and that they were looking for a “good solution.” However, this is not the first time the 33-year-old fighter has had trouble with the authorities.

Jermall Charlo and his past troubles

Along with fame in the boxing ring, Charlo has chased infamy and kept himself embroiled in controversies. He faced a count of assault in 2022 concerning an incident in 2021 when he grabbed his cousin by the hair to throw off a vehicle and punched him three times. The felony charges were dropped later, but they dented Charlo’s image.

He last fought Jose Benavidez Jr. in December, ending his almost 2-year layoff, but failed to impress the fans. He was in the mix to face Canelo Alvarez on May 4 during the Cinco de Mayo weekend. However, PBC and Alvarez separated their paths, which put that fight on hold. There are rumors that Charlo will clash with the Mexican champion in September. But it remains to be seen whether he can keep his off-the-ring record clean.
