Jermall Charlo and Caleb Plant Are Bad Matchups for Canelo Alvarez – Claims Mayweather Promotions’ CEO

Mayweather Promotions’ CEO, Leonard Ellerbe, has voiced his opinion on Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez. The CEO has named two fighters who can beat the famous boxer and has explained why the duo would be bad match-ups for Alvarez.

Speaking to FightHype.com, Ellerbe said, “I hope that fight gets made because Caleb Plant is a very, very good fighter. He just hasn’t had the opportunities as, say, like a Canelo. But he’s… his style is all wrong for Canelo, in my opinion.”

Ellerbe added, “And Mall [Jermall Charlo] too. All wrong! I hope both of them would get that fight.” 

Caleb Plant has been linked with a fight with Alvarez, ever since he was free from Golden Boy Promotions. Furthermore, after Canelo’s victory over Smith, Plant has been vocal about fighting the Mexican. Whereas, Charlo has previously said he will go up to fight Alvarez.

Leonard Ellerbe explained why Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo can beat Canelo Alvarez

The CEO gave his reasons for thinking the way he does. “All the fights would be good, but Caleb is a thinking fighter. Caleb is a thinking fighter, he’s very slick, very sharp, great reflexes,” said Ellerbe. 

He added, “Mall [Jermall Charlo] great athleticism, tremendous skills, tough as nails, can do it all…” 

His explanation showed that not only does he rate both fighters highly, but feels Canelo hasn’t fought anyone with these attributes.
